@AAKL this is false. Donations account for only 8 million out of their ~500m revenue and barely cover their CEO salary and bonuses. Mozilla lives of Google and 75% of their budget is Google money. Mozilla is effectively owned by Google. Stop shilling for them, they suck and must die in fire.
@prettygood@AAKL Google paying them to be default search engine represents ~85% of their income. If they started not operating in a retarded way, they'd stop being controlled opposition for Google and lose that.
@dotnet@AAKL I would argue at this point that Google needs Mozilla more than the other way around. The anti-trust stewpot is starting to bubble up again, not specifically in this arena but in general.
@prettygood@AAKL Google needs Mozilla enough to be paying them hundreds of millions a year, and Mozilla needs Google enough to not make any serious moves to compete with Google. But Google only has to worry about losing Chrome, Mozilla has to worry about going bankrupt.

"It’s worth noting that #Firefox is the only mainstream browser built on an independent, #opensource browser engine whose roots don’t go back to Apple’s #WebKit engine. Google based its Blink engine on WebKit, and Blink powers both #Chrome and #Chromium, the open-source browser upon which most other modern browsers are built, including #Opera, #Brave, and Microsoft #Edge."
