It seems like so much energy has been spent making realistic CRT filters for upscaled games, but there’s such a great opportunity to be creative with naturalistic textures.

Here’s some potential examples, knit sweater, glass tiles, cross-stitch. And these are 720p, works even better at higher resolutions.

@skoda that actually works great with gameboy art, but to be pedantic probably WHY it works so well is gameboy art was never designed for CRT , it's square pixel already so it's got very clear simple art designed for a small screen, proper CRT filtering is more of needed for stuff like genesis/snes as the sprite art looks VERY wrong displayed as square pixel LCD, you lose a lot of detail in the original, spritework, plus most effects and a lot of color.
