JustinRyanH, @GameFromScratch You might know enough to clear it up. But do the ones with the Unity/UE logos mean they're only redeemed at their respective asset stores? I interpret it that way.

collaborationgames, Interesting fact, getting new followers here on Mastodon is harder then in all of the other social medias combined😅
#gamedev
aeva, @collaborationgames fwiw I found it to be fairly easy to catch up and run past my old twitter account in a much shorter timescale?
picoretro, Simultaneous play in Billabong is just too frantic. A game can be over in seconds. I'm thinking to slow it down by limiting each player to only one flow in progress at any one time, and slowing down the flows so that players have more opportunity to block flows that can capture a large amount of the maze.
On the plus side, the game creates some really pretty patterns.

alakajam,
alakajam, The jam runs until 20:00 UTC, 9th of June, so there's still plenty of time to join if you haven't already!
See https://alakajam.com/post/1817/the-15th-kajam-has-started for the full list of limitations.
yourmagicisworking, Yesterday I was surprised to find that the Liikennematto devlog that I posted last week had made it to the front-page of Hacker News. It's still there!
Some results from the exposure:
- 7.8k unique visitors / 8.7k page views
- 500+ browser plays on itch.io
- about 30 new stars on GitHub
- many followers here
Also: 4x traffic vs. Firebase free quota. Had to create a billing account to keep the website live.

Berin, Patch 1.1 of Aftertaste is out now 🎉
This update adds a bunch of new sprites, more camera work, and more VFX ☕ 🩸
For details, check the devlog 👇

Gif of Aftertaste gameplay, showing a handsome tan man with lavender hair smirking at the player. His name is Yonah. Dialogue: "He doesn't look up, chuckling quietly, a few moments later." Yonah: "I did offer you the seat with me already, did I not?" Me: "Oh. Yes, I suppose you did."
Gameplay gif of Aftertaste, showing a barista with dark brown hair and an easy smile. They have minimal facial features. Dialogue: "They hand me a mug with tan-colored coffee. Steam rises from it, and I take it carefully." A notification pops up in the corner, saying "Item obtained: Coffee".
A gif of the point and click portion of Aftertaste. It features a cafe background with many details to click on. A man sits at his laptop on the left, and a woman reads a book on the right. The woman is highlighted. There are two buttons that say "Journal" and "Inventory" in the bottom right corner. The player clicks on the woman and the scene darkens as her sprite shows up. Dialogue: "I almost feel bad about bothering her."
Gameplay gif of the Aftertaste visual novel showing a woman with red hair put up in buns in front of a black background. The camera is slowly zooming in on her face. Woman: I don't want to be in the same room with him for long. Bad news, I think. Bad, bad news.

screwtape, Post nobody wants #itch #gamedev #meta analysis from latest / popular devlog posts.
https://lispy-gopher-show.itch.io/logos-lisp-legend/devlog/733862/post-nobody-wants-itchio-meta-at-my-glance
tl;dr #springlispgamejam2024 people are already doing well by breaking out of the sameyness with #lisp power tools and cultural memory. On the other hand, it must be hard to break into the crowds of The Exact Same People Doing The Exact Same Thing With The Exact Same Engine Demo Examples. Maybe just don't worry about it. I kinda regret writing this.
screwtape, @amoroso oh this is the Naughty Dog thing. I think I've been too dismissive towards this in the past too ;p I knew you'd know something
That's quite the interesting article (they got bought by Sony hoping to scoop their tech! Wait, what are all these ((((((s )
amoroso, @screwtape Back in the day Naughty Dog was widely shared as a Lisp success story.
witch_warren, Put together another room transition, this time for the fake door prop that swings open. i always really loved this effect on rides despite how basic it is, though i might be signing up for too much considering how many of these I'll have to make transitions for in the end... #gamedev #pixelart #disneyland
heroicthehobbyist, @witch_warren That door opening transition is pretty slick. It really gives the feeling of a big world in a small room. Looks great!
britown, My late (second) entry to #screenshotsaturday I got my shadowcasting working!
Looking forward to combining both a lighting model with a vision model along with fog of war 😊
decipher2k, What do you think about ingame ads in PC games?
Surely they can be anoying, but aren't they a chance to publish games for free and still make some money?
I'm asking for a friend 😅
#gamedev #games #indiegame
decipher2k, i'm sorry, i mean ingame ads like on billboards or TV's that are real game objects.
those ads seem to be part of the game world, thus they are more subtile and don't interrupt the game flow.
gmr_leon, @decipher2k ooh, gotcha. If it's a contemporary game where they fit and are kept more in the background (unless it's maybe a sports game where they're more upfront), then it's kind of whatever.
Not a fan of them still, but less disruptive than the ones I had in mind.
glassbottommeg, (edited ) Been trying to figure out how to phrase the next era of my #GameDev / #IndieGame studio
If it's my partner and I making games, but she's a very silent artist partner and wants zero exposure, do I just roll the "single creator" angle?
It feels weird, but also a lot of single creator games sure have lots of contractors so shrug?
Like if I say "couple", EVERYONE gonna zero in on that. The angle they'll want is couple interviews. And, well. No.
getter7seven, @glassbottommeg You can be the first to claim them as your Stand or other equivalent entity of power aiding.
Taffer, @glassbottommeg you could play it up as a secret contributor who’s a reclusive genius or like Penn & Teller…
OffTheBooks, Hey #IndieDev peoples, when do you share about a project? Does sharing help or hurt your motivation? Have you tried different strategies? I’d love to boost some of your stories and experiences.
ghosttie, @OffTheBooks right now I post practically everything I do because any kind of positive feedback is helpful
It works less well when you're working on something non-visible
maxim, I reduced the size of the hole creation and connected this to the laser cutter. It looks interesting, maybe there will be several places in the game where you need to cut a hole, but with a combination of Chaos Destruction and Geometry Script
#gamedev #ScreenshotSaturday #UnrealEngine #gaming #scifi #indiegame #UnrealEngine5 #ue5 #indiedev #videogames
daniilskli, @maxim Awesome!
If you can share, I'd be interested to know how it works technically, how the geometry deforms or whatever. Because as far as I know, usually in games, if there are any destructions, it's a pre-broken geometry, which at the right moment just replaces the whole one and falls apart. And here everything is dynamic, laser, I have not seen such a thing. 😅
maxim, @daniilskli
just search on YouTube: Unreal Engine 5 Geometry Scriptyou will find a couple of videos with similar examples
bug, ✨ New blog post! Fixing the iterative damping interpolation in video games
https://blog.pkh.me/p/41-fixing-the-iterative-damping-interpolation-in-video-games.html
bug, @lisyarus oh I like how you solve the problem in 4 lines while I'm taking the most batshit insane path (though you don't provide the speed conversion formula)
You may be interested in the expm1 trick to avoid writing the unintuitive swapped form a=lerp(b,a,x)
> 1 / speed is the time in which position becomes closer to target by a factor of e = 2.71828
The wiki page you link proposes a another reading when using the time constant (T=1/speed); something along 63.2%; this may help?
lisyarus, @bug Yep, I was planning to mention expm1 (which is also more precise) but decided the post is already too long :)
The thing wiki mentions is actually the same as in my article: if you divide a thing by e = 2.71828, you get 0.3678 of the thing, or 36.78%, meaning you got closer to zero by 100 - 36.78 = 63.21%
