I would be very amused if they knew the name would be public through SteamDB and they used this as a placeholder name to obscure the real name of the expansion. :-)
I mean, Secrets of the Obscure? Might as well be called The Place of the Holder. But then again, who knows. As long as it's not another Guild Wars 2: Remember That?, I'll be happy.
It looks like ncsoft's attorney filed a trademark on Secrets of the Obscure in March using a shell company called Secret River Enterprises. It's the same attorney that did other GW2 trademarks. They also did not prefix the trademark with "GUILD WARS 2: " like the other expansions.
So I don't think it's a placeholder, unless they're really committed to fucking with us.
"Secret River" and the "Secrets of the Obscure" give me some River of Soul vibes...are we perhaps going to the Underworld? It's supposed to be under new [demonic] management now, right? And we just had to deal with a demon in Gyala Delve...
I don't remember anything in guild wars being referenced as "the Obscure" before, right? Must be something completely new, possibly related to the void? I'm still more curious about the date and gameplay improvements over where the story goes next but nice to see that something's cookin'.
I'm going to be cautiously optimistic about it, but I'm happy to start getting news about the next expansion. I don't love the jade aesthetic. It's a shame that they've leaned into that so much because the first three zones in EOD were all gorgeous.
Looks like it's leaning into the usage of mushrooms and ziplines which is... Okay, I suppose. If it leans more into juicy gameplay rather than lore I'll be happy
It does? Maybe it's like four rooms and a bouncy mushroom equivalent inbetween each. I'm carefully optimistic regarding the depth of the thing. Or, hopefully, quite literally The Depths.
We'll have to get Alliances to see the actual changes on our side. All the top players will try to gather into a single alliance.
The system will have to deal with that.
For now, all I can say is that there were no more weird bugs like ending up in another match or world.
Slow-going is way more my speed (as I reply 2 days late and it doesn't even seem weird), so here's hoping it sticks. I haven't exactly been a fan of reddit for some years, but the gw2 sub has been one of the few that made it worth putting up with.
Anet does seem to be keeping things fairly close to the chest nowadays. They're only giving details on the next update and keeping any future plans vague at best.
