I find it funny that Marjorie Taylor Greene has an identity as a sort of "white-centric", quite far right US conservative when it's pretty obvious that she has a significant amount of Native American ancestry, which can be seen just by looking at her face (ignore the blonde dyed hair, makeup, etc.).
3 or 4 spam "Buy Phloboxidril Now In Your Area" posts per day were tolerable. 20 to 50 aren't. I know I could block the magazine, but I'm just one of the many who are subjected to it....
This post doesn't directly affect kbin.social users, but it is relevant. It discusses some of the potential pros/cons of Kbin and Mbin, and also the direction the kbin.earth server is heading.
Is there any way we, as users, can help deal with the waves of spam-meds-bots? When I get the chance I downvote, but that's not possible for microblog. Do reporting them have any effect, or they go in the pile and are more a nuisance than a help?...
/kbin has been getting some great updates lately (e.g., improved magazine search, translation improvements, backend stuff that I'm too stupid to understand). But this all has me wondering: when might we see a list of subscribed magazines?...
What mechanism governs federation with non group based instances? I set up some magazines for Running and Cycling on kbin.social, and I've noticed that there is quite a lot of activity of those hashtags from general mastodon instances....
I've been privately DMing some other kbin users for a while now and I've run into a recurring issue: once the conversations and responses get lengthy, there's a hard length cap in terms of character count. Namely 5000 characters. Some of our messages end up around 20k characters in length, trying to quote and address each part...
Today, a technical server malfunction occurred. Unfortunately, it wasn't the planned update yet. The upcoming one will definitely be much shorter ;)...
While UI tweaks definitely aren't the top development priority as of now, the header currently feels a bit cluttered and unintuitive. When @ernest does get around to improving it, here are a few changes I suggest:...
Not sure where to report this exactly but media.kbin.social has an expired Let's Encrypt certificate (expired Tue, 03 Oct 2023 14:47:25 GMT) and this is causing problems loading various images across the site -- e.g. user avatars (sometimes), images copied from various Lemmy instances, and image threads made on kbin....
There was a post about how beehaw was defederating from shitjustworks and lemmy.world about 6 hours ago. Are we involved in that, as are we a subset of lemmyworld?...
Today, when I go to upvote a comment it directs me to an error page. I've confirmed that I'm properly logged in and it does not happen on top-level posts, just comments. Anyone else?
I appreciate that earnest made a post yesterday, or maybe it was the day before, saying that he is not dead and hasn't given up on kbin. It's not on this magazine, so I'm not sure where it was since this seems to be the most appropriate one, but in any case....
Looks like Kbin is running a pretty huge federation backlog, as it's taking several hours for comments to federate out. I'm not knowledgeable about how these servers work, but is it teetering on collapsing or something?
