@amadeus That seems an excellent question - I'd guess the metrics I'd look to would be Bitwig and Ardour (Paul Davis), covering the proprietary and open use cases pretty well.
Reaper is every bit as popular as Bitwig and Ardour, and possibly more so in the Linux realm. I have doubts that metrics from just those two developers would give a clear enough picture as to the number of linux users. There are probably 20 DAWs available in the Linux world.
Along with the little oddball DAWs, there are big names, like Presonus, Bitwig, Harrison, and Cockos. Here is a list of just the most popular ones:

@luka@amadeus I really do think the Apple Silicon switch hurt a lot. Been following efforts to port the kernel and bootloader, which could be cool, though it'll be a wait still. Heh, my Razer is ... ailing so I need to build a new machine for a proper Linux install.
