@rolle i used to have an account on mastodon dot world, or whatever the main instance was back in 2019. i eventually forgot all my passwords so i had to make a new account. i chose sauropods.win because i heard about it on tetrapodcats
@rolle I’m trying to avoid switching until there’s a better way to choose a new instance, that can filter out instances that would block any of my followers/ees, or do/don’t have certain moderation policies or subscribe to certain blocklists, or don’t have plans to keep running when admins getting burnt out, or don’t have plans to keep up with growing storage requirements for users posts, or have post size limits I don’t like, and so on
@rolle This is the account I use most and it has always been with Qoto.org. I like the admin and their philosophy that adults can do their own blocking or not.
I have a second real-name account on a different server that I use when I want to be more connected to IRL.
@rolle
Thinking of joining the front-end.social I stance if/when they open up for applications. Nothing against my current instance, just seems like a logical choice.
@rolle I went mastodon to akkoma as I wanted something lighter then back to mastodon after I managed to corrupt the psql db.
Atm the mo it’s on a hosted instance although as it will likely be mastodon to mastodon next time I’ll probably just download the backup and restore it elsewhere so not sure if that counts
@rolle Yeh it's werid as postgres is usally pretty resilient, but there's pgtoast errors all over the users table.
I managed to at least get it running again by restoring from a VM snapshot level backup but even going several days back I found corruption, but at least I got Akkoma running long enough with enough of the DB intact to trigger a user migration and inform all the following instances that my account had moved.
It's on masto.host at the moment because I just wanted it running.
@rolle I made the mistake of going onto an instance which I felt most represented me, not realizing that the federation has terrible cross-talk. I then set up an account here so I could at least see posts from other servers with some level of reliability. Hopefully they fix that soon. I don't want to have to create an account for each instance.
@rolle technically once but I came in during last fall's influx and that first server had gotten overwhelmed. I signed up on my current server, which other than a handful of toots is the only one I've been on.
