Mastodon.social is down. Pretty rare. What do now?
The recent excitement surrounding Thread’s arrival on the Fediverse is concerning. To understand why this is not a good idea, consider their economic interest in harvesting data, their poor moderation, and their manipulations. Nothing good can come from their federation. Don’t roll out the red carpet for them....
Does mastodon support groups or communities? like lemmy the users can make groups or communities and manage them.
I found this blog post useful for explaining how to interact with Lemmy via Mastodon.
Why does Mastodon censor people worse than Twitter over hurt feelings? It seems multiple servers or instances prefer to ban account for using a bad word, rather than be an adult and let each person decide if they want to engage or not. Even going so far as ban an entire instance from other servers for not being nice....
i guess i just experienced one of the biggest downsides to the fediverse that people have been talking about. instance suddenly disappeared with no warning. i guess i’ve lost my follow list
currently I'm following some Lemmy comms on mastodon and my problem is that each comment showed up independently in my feed....
Whats the state of #algorithms on #Mastodon? I mean for the feed. I understand that algorithms based on engagement are problematic, but scaling posts based on posting frequency could help me not have a feed where some people are drowned out by frequent posters…
I came across this blogpost regarding Mastodon. I would love to get you guys thoughts. This is from earlier in the year, the authors thoughts may have changed but not likely. Some points make sense others not so much. https://artifact.news/posts/p/4808379356679562208?s=6007865051323234948

I recently suggested Mastodon to a friend and she is using it on IOS. She sent me a picture of her visiting an account and the name shows as @username@mastodon.social...
Just curious to know the different possible use cases.
I’m not entirely sure how to ask this, but is there some way for a Mastodon server to host only its own content while being accessible to others?...

The most common answer I see is something along the lines of “it’s the equivalent of liking a post on twitter”. It seems that this is not the case, as the Mastodon devs seem rather adamant that they don’t want “likes” in Mastodon. Perhaps it’s a method of saving posts? Well, that doesn’t make sense either, since...
My instance (toot.community) has decided not to block threads. Any recommended instances that are cool that have blocked threads that I could switch to?
is there some API or other mechanism that allows me to create a contact form on my site and have the messages delivered to my mastodon inbox?

Curious about thoughts on boosting and favoriting here. I’ve only used Mastodon for about a year, and mostly lurk on a personal but also have a business account that posts daily. Maybe you have advice for me or ideas to improve things....
Like breaking news, general news?
On the home feed (on multiple different clients including Ivory, Ice Cubes, mammoth, and the Mastodon web app) posts are injected from accounts that are not followed, nor do they include any hashtags. How are they doing this?
Or have I missed the train on this? I know services like twitodon.com were available to find users on Mastodon that an account is following on Twitter. But it looks like with the API goofiness, those services are shut down. Is there any way to do this now?
