One of several footbridges over muddy areas. Lots of cool, gnarly trees to admire in the 🌲

@p It's been closed to the public since 2019. Michael passed away from his battle with prostate cancer in 2020. Unfortunately, his life visions of creating a sustainable humanist community wasn't fully realized & his kindness was exploited by too many grifters. He was very kind & compassionate. He fed & housed many people who had nowhere to live.

A fellow environmental activist friend of mine lived there for awhile, in her camper & hosted wild plant educational walks:

I was in poole's land for a week in 2014, after cycling from Victoria to Tofino
Michael was off somewhere so I didn't run into him directly sadly

@p I only stayed for few days in 90s - after RCMP resistance camp raids in few areas. Went back with few friends to help with some infrastructure & farming in mid 2000s - only went to do volunteer work - while visiting friends & family in the areas nearby. I haven't been back since. I felt bad for Michael - his vision & kindness were exploited by too many folks who didn't respect or treat him with kindness.

@msquebanh. Enjoy the hike and the gnarled woods.

@Pollinators Thank you 😊 I have more photos from past 3 wilderness hikes in forest and by the sea. I am going to slowly post them here.

@msquebanh. Thanks. We don’t get rainforest and ocean hikes every day. The garden has started. Most of the garlics are up. , ,

@msquebanh@mastodon.sdf.org avatar

@Pollinators Do you grow more than one type of garlic? I love garlic!

Pollinators,
@Pollinators@epicure.social avatar

@msquebanh. I just stirred the 2023 garlic crop ferment. It needs more time. We are enthusiastic about blended and fermented garlic in cooking and other fermentations. Many garlic varieties blended together are complex. This is the rationale for growing about twenty varieties for about twenty years. And having charts of the garden to rotate the crop. , , , .

@Pollinators I really enjoy pickled garlic & whole roasted garlic. I don't grow garlic yet but plan to. I'm still working on soil amendments on area that I want to have a longterm garlic patch.

Pollinators,
@Pollinators@epicure.social avatar

@msquebanh. We can trade garlicky pickles and ferments for your five gallons and three months fish and seaweed blend. All the 2023 garlic crop is committed to a future as fermented garlic paste. You can suggest another recipe for us that includes fermented garlic. Note. The shipping is going to be too high until we get access to small batches teleporting.

@Pollinators I wish we lived closer to you!
