NEW: We’re partnering with several animal welfare orgs to host a fee-waived adoptathon for guinea pigs this weekend–January 5 through 7! The event follows a recent surrender of 55 guinea pigs from a single home to the Animal Rescue League of Boston. We took in 20 of the pets, whose owners purchased guinea pigs from pet stores where they were incorrectly sexed, resulting in many litters 1/
Two elderly Dalit farmers fighting case against TN BJP leader, summoned by ED
The ED is alleged to be pursuing the Dalit farmers – who subsist on a Rs 1,000 monthly pension – as they are engaged in a land dispute case, where they have accused a local BJP leader of trying to illegally grab their land.
Ever wonder why when you were a kid in Oregon, you learned about the Iroquois and Cherokee tribes of the Eastern USA but nothing about local Native Americans? Why you learned about the pioneers crossing the plains on the Oregon Trail, but nothing about what they did once they arrived?
...Or maybe you didn't even notice how much was left out until this very moment, reading my words?
Here is the missing piece.
"Tribal Histories of the Willamette Valley" by David G. Lewis.
Fair warning, this book made me so upset that I cried. Not at the author, he's done an excellent job. At the astonishing cruelty, violence, and dishonesty shown to native people by (many) white settlers. At how little they asked for, and still didn't get. At how little is left of the ecosystems that sustained people and wildlife and were carefully maintained by native people. At how much astonishing wealth has accrued to those who stole from natives, even to the modern day.
Land acknowledgement statements are not enough! If you are a white person in Oregon, you need to read this.
NEW: ‘Tis the season to find more animals homes! We’re holding a fee-waived adoptathon for all #dogs aged 1 and up next week at all of our adoption centers. The event comes amid an ongoing national dog population crisis that’s putting thousands at risk of euthanasia for nothing more than lack of a home 1/
During the Home for the Holidays adoptathon–Monday, December 4 through Sunday, December 10–the $350 to $500 adoption fees for adult dogs will be waived thanks to our sponsor Bissell Pet Foundation. Eligible dogs will have stars on their profiles at http://www.mspca.org/adoptadog.
You know #Halloween in #SalemMA is getting out of hand when the Washington Post writes about it: "Salem bet big on spooky season. Now witch girlies are everywhere. " https://wapo.st/3SzeM2T
Who could say no to these adorable faces? They’re all available to adopt fee-free this weekend! Check out http://www.mspca.org/subaru for more info on the adoptathon at all four of our shelters!
NEW: We’re holding a fee-waived adoptathon this weekend for our underdogs–animals that are older, have some medical issues or physical challenges, or are just generally in shelters longer. That includes some cats and dogs, as well as rabbits, guinea pigs, roosters and more! #rescuepets#rescuedogs#rescuecats#dogs#cats#boston#methuen#capecod#salem 1/
Wore my shirt from @omsi from the 2017 total #eclipse that we had driven down to #Salem#oregon to view, for today's partial eclipse that I tried to view from our home in #portland#PDX today... It was not nearly as exciting though, it didn't stop raining long enough to see the sun through the clouds, and at most it just got a little extra dark, not totally sunless 😅 reminded me of whenever we have thick wildfire smoke blotting out the sun... Thankfully without the awful smell, choked air or orange skies, though.
Got an email from an investigator who I admire a ton & who worked on this case for a long time to help finally get Johnson exonerated & released.
