Every text editor should have the ability to run an arbitrary shell script from a menu item, send stdin, and replace the current selection based on the output.

@collin is this kind of thing possible at a system level for any text field with Services? Honestly can't remember.

@petehare It should be, yes. You can also do it through AppleScript with a "do shell script” command. My main issue is that those seem to have trouble picking up on my PATH and other environment variables.

@collin this is one reason I use Vim in the terminal. Seine things are easy in the editor, some things are easier with external tools.
