@gemelliz I’m no fan of #DougFord, but cities have been using heritage designation to block housing for quite some time. Witness the bulk listing a few months ago of hundreds of businesses along Toronto’s Danforth, including a “heritage” dry cleaners and fast food restaurants. An area directly above a subway line that would be perfect for higher density. Heritage is great, but not as a cynical #NIMBY ploy to prop up property values and push people out of the city.

DF says he 'needs' #Bill23 to "create housing". Not only has he been secretive about donor deals, but his first projects involve paving #greenbelt to build sprawl & highways. If his first projects had been to work with cities to create higher density housing using existing infrastructure & along transit/subways, as you suggest, concern wouldn't be as harsh. He's building on land that should be the last consideration, not the first.

@gemelliz That's one of the most awful things to me: that DoFo is using the housing crisis as opportunity for grift. Solving the crisis includes developers building housing, and pushing back against NIMBY excesses. But with the corruption surrounding it, then all housing-related actions become guilty by association.
