This is just painful to watch. What did that poor phone ever do to anyone?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IS0SItAzEXg

SleightWryder,

@paul It was created from slave labour. That's what was wrong. It's the equivalent of a rape baby.

kopio,

@paul Torture aside, still learned something new about apple spatial camera.

andrew_writes,

@paul love the part where he points a fucking blowtorch at a li-ion battery

heesdaman,

@paul I’m into iPhone refurbishment and it is interesting to see what kind of damage customers can do and (probably) how they did it.

So yes, from a personal view it’s bringing tears to my eyes. And yes, I do AppleCare for my own phones. 😏

@paul I really don't like Jerry. His attitude is so toxic. Especially towards Apple but also in general.

And I still don't understand this type of video.

@kaiserkiwi @paul I found the second video on the iPhone 15 pro from him more interesting, because you can see how thick the titanium really is (about 1 mm). Basically, it is an aluminum iPhone with a thin titanium layer.

@hesse @paul Apple mentioned this so this was expected. The whole purpose is to feel better not to just be Titanium for the sake of it. So I'm absolutely fine with aluminum on the inside.

I will never see it and I don't think the iPhone would be 100€ cheaper this year in Germany if it would be all Titanium :D

@hesse @paul Watched the second video. Much more nuanced. Thanks for the suggestion!

toadking,

@kaiserkiwi He does this for pretty much all flagship phones. If you're talking about the jabs around Lightning vs. USB-C and the removal of headphone jacks then Apple 1000% deserves those jabs.

lukevegas,

@paul So you’re trying to say an iPhone breaks when you try to break it? I think durability tests are fine and fair enough if folks make a buck off the content, but he’s not testing it, he’s trying to break it. And voilà - it breaks. 🤷‍♂️

  • lukevegas,

    @constantine @lukevegas @paul not trying to be negative just disagreeing with the methods. Crash tests are usually standardized following real world scenarios. This is simply trying to break smth 🤷‍♂️

    edealagency,

    @paul
    Imagine people who are selling their lands, doing all sorts of gymnastics just to get hands on one of these and here someone is burning and breaking to prove a point.
    This world😭
    Are all serving the same God?

    pancake,

    @paul uhm, so it's the non-max model stronger than the max one? 🤔

    @paul I could see value in destructive testing if they were measuring and comparing models with a force gauge etc. but just manhandling it and going “huh looks like it breaks” is just weird

    @paul Shit like that can only exist in capitalism, where the only consistent logic is enriching oneself by destroying real, tangible value. No matter how pretty, childish or pointless. By sharing it, you create more incentive to continue with this behaviour and implicitly condone it.

    FrankEndrullat,

    @paul it’s also an utter waste of resources. This phone could have been useful for someone. Now it’s basically trash after half an hour. 🤮

    @paul 🙈😭

    luke_bennett_,

    @paul I thought he was going to slice his hand open testing how scratch resistant the titanium was 😟

    rahulgaitonde,

    @paul Will It B(l)end?

    But the logic of doing this aside, bendgate is like a comet that visits the Apple solar system every few years. The 2014 iPhone 6 Plus, the 2018 12.9” iPad Pro, now the 2023 iPhone 15 Pro.

    adamplacker,

    @paul I’ve never understood these tests. I’ve never dropped a phone let alone bent it in my hands until it popped, taken a torch to it or anything of the sort 😂

    morphorod,

    @paul and he does it every…single…year. I have avoid them cause it’s unpleasant to watch.

    SamTheGeek,
    @SamTheGeek@mastodon.social avatar

    @paul every year people buy and immediately destroy phones for “content.”

    Admittedly the supply situation is better than in years past but it’s such a waste. Wish they’d raffle them off or something (after getting the phone fixed)

    TheChrisGlass,

    @paul Heh, I still have my HTC Evo 3D and the LG Thrill 4G, both of the original 3D phones. Sadly, they both had major software bugs. Even with custom OS installs, you couldn't fix all the LG issues. It just didn't have enough internal storage for its own files.
