@lispi314@pluralistic it's a weird libertarian fantasy that only murder and contract violations are the really illegal actions that should be regulated. It's kind of telling about the lonely fuckers that they don't think about weregild and blood feuds as a prohibition against murder
@lispi314@pluralistic Honestly, my biggest question with the premise is if financial crimes are legal during the Purge, because I'd embezzle everything I could get my hands on and retire early.
@BartlebysCorpse@lispi314@pluralistic Exactly. If everything was legal only a ridiculous minory would go "Yay, murder!" - most people would rob a bank, steal the deed to their house, or declare themselves CEO of Tesla or owner of The Bank of England or, yes, embezzle their happy asses off.
I haven't seen TP but I'm pretty sure a government that would do such a thing would also have an asterisk next to "decriminalized" excepting the kind of crime that would inconveniece the rich & powerful...
You know what I hate most about the Purge? We're all busy murdering and pillaging, and meanwhile there's that @pluralistic guy violating EULAs and cracking DRM and going all right-to-repair on his John Deere tractor, and making us all look like schmucks. Takes all the fun out of the whole business, frankly.
