It's inevitable that throughout my career, I've watched as my work gets replaced and updated by others. It's rare to be asked to redesign old work, which is why I leapt at the chance when @thunderbird asked if I could design a contemporary update to the Thunderbird logo. The one I designed 19 years ago!
Sorry, but I really don't like the feel of the new thunderbird logo.
It looks like a dangerous predator hunting my emails. It has not much i common with the feel of the old logo, which gives a friendly and gentle impression.
@joakimdahl@jonhicks@thunderbird I agree 1. The eye looks evil 2. Also, I've never seen a bird curl up like a fox. To me, it made a lot more sense with the bird on top 3. The envelope in a circle looks more like a clock, unfortunately
@allo@joakimdahl@nevial@thunderbird the speech balloon is definitely deliberate, as Thunderbird does more than just email. It was designed to be subtle though
@phils@thunderbird we very much wanted to suggest “more than email” as Thunderbird has such a range. I wasn’t sure how obvious it would be, so glad you noticed!

It's looking great! I believe the quote shaped envelope is on purpose, this is well done, nice detail.
I have one remark on the "Android Adaptive" version where the envelope flap detail strongly reminds me of a clock face, I think it would work better if the line is of a fixed width (see picture).
@thunderbird@jonhicks oh for sure. I like the old logo too, but this is definitely an upgrade 😁 I feel like it's saying "this mail is safe, I'mma protect it like it was my baby"
