Well, I am not thrilled about having to #migrate. I get the issues, but the timing sucks, and I sure wish it was possible just to keep the status quo. Not that anyone has asked for my .02...but since when has that ever stopped me from commenting?? 🙄 Stand by for migration antics fairly soon.
Thing is, everyone on home.social will be losing all their old posts unless they take steps to preserve some or all of them. I'm not sure everyone's aware of this?

I doubt everyone is. I downloaded an archive, but it's really not the same. Will prob boost a few of mine before I close this one out, just to give some "look & feel" to the new one.
Right after setting up new acct but before(!) doing any linking with the home.social one:
Preferences / Other / Posting Privacy / Unlisted
You can now use the new acct to boost your home.social posts w/o flooding either followers or the Local feed. When done, reset new acct to Public; then start the process of linking accts, uploading data files, etc.
@HistoPol@JulieNye I searched to find out what Unlisted actually does, and tested a few posts first to make certain it worked in the new place. YMMV, but seems OK.
I'd saved information about this when mastodon.lol shut down (just in case!). But I couldn't remember where I'd squirreled it away and had to start from scratch. Sigh.

I did like the video, and it was not as fast as others on #YouTube.
However, all videos I was able to see at a quick glance were from/to #Mastodon only, not to another platform,
!!! And: in 1 video the transfer of 1700 followers was not Finisher after 4 hrs!

I'm trying to decide between 2 accts--which to use as my main. Opened one on calckey.social today, just to get the feel of it. Would rather take more time & do a more fully-considered choice. Nope. I hit the road in a few days and home.social will close before I'm back. Main issue is needing to factor in an unrelated business launch, and what I hope to coax them into here. Complex. Need more time I don't have. Frustrated...rushed!

The operative question for me is this: if I'm trying to coax a bunch of new authors & academics to sign up, will they do better on calckey or masto? And I can't "push" calckey without using it some first so I can coach. And the clock ticks.... ⏰

You could check if the #ClimateScientists who left the #BorgSite this week as a group did so having a go-to instance or platform.
If they moved to #Calckey, that would be a pretty sound evidence.
