@dancinyogi I’m in Australia & am a former school teacher. We have a 6 week summer/Christmas break & 3x2 term breaks. Students & staff are usually tired-burnt out by the end of each term, & especially end of school year. Year round school might even out the stresses, but might worsen mental health issues. And take away the holidays & a lot of teachers might resign. (For some, the holidays only just offset the downsides.) School isn’t childcare. If childcare is the issue, provide childcare options.
@dancinyogi There are many schools in our area that are starting this in the fall. The kids will still only go 180 days, but they will get breaks all through the year.
@dancinyogi that would make a big difference - same as those schools where the same class is run as the first and last class of the day, so families can choose a school day that starts & ends later or earlier. It's only helpful if it's an option.
@dancinyogi What are the details? Shorter school days?
My first instinct is to say it's a bad idea, but that might just be because it's a new/strange idea. I would like to hear the arguments for the plan before I decide.
