I can't comment on US politics but I don't think the UK government is much better at condemning the cruelty either. Public protests are still ongoing here.

@Jaden2 it's because the US is allied with Israel as the only democracy in the Middle East and thus supports them. I agree with you, but historically this is what is done. We need to demand less fealty to Israel in US policy.

Not trying to defend Israel but it is important to acknowledge that Hamas is (and has in the past) fired rockets from hospitals, schools, and un buildings. It's how they fight such an asymmetrical war against a much more powerful army because the strategy leaves Israel with no nice options in response. Hamas also killed 100s of Israeli children and is holding children hostage because Israel also hasn't given Hamas any nice options for resisting the blockade and occupation.
@Jaden2 The US gvt has a lot of financial and political ties to the Israeli government, and they think it's more important to stay on good terms with the Israeli government than to step in.
I hope that the protests inside Israel will expand, the current government will lose power and then the governments in other countries will start seriously trying to protect Palestinians. But I don't know, and every day more people are dying.
@Jaden2 Totally agree. I "understand" the politicians' position in that I know what their argument is, but I just can't imagine anything that could make you look at a situation where 5000 children have been killed and not want to do everything you possibly can to stop it, right now

@Jaden2@CaptainJanegay same goes for the Israelis having been slaughtered. The problem: Hamas wants exactly this. There was a ceasefire before the attack. Hamas broke it slaying the most Jews since the Holocaust on one day knowing exactly what will happen. Still shooting rockets from Hospitals and such, still keeping Hostages among those kids. Netanyahu and the settlers are POS, yes, but Hamas brought this one onto Gaza. Hamas could stop just as well but are willingly sacrificing their people.
@Jaden2@CaptainJanegay The goal of Hamas is to eliminate Israel and to "remove" all Jews from the region, which of course is the historical Jewish homeland as well. This is the third war in 80 years that Israel's neighbors started to try to eliminate the Jewish people; those previous wars are why Israel has territories in the first place. This is a rough situation, urban terrorism conducted in such tight quarters, Hamas naturally as an outnumbered force using every possible method to try to win. It's absolutely a humanitarian disaster, and it could never have been anything different, as Hamas knew when it executed its attack to start this war. I also support a ceasefire, but unless we're willing to ensure the security of Israel, we don't have the right to demand a sovereign nation lay down its arms against an active terrorist group less than a month after it deliberately targeted and murdered 1,400 civilians.
