  • it was damp and cool this morning, and mainly cloudy this afternoon, which kept the temperature mild all day. My short walk caught a bit of sun in the evening but I still wore a jacket anyway.

  • my grocery delivery came with only one substitution and one shorter life item. The birds are provided for too as I got a new large bag of seeds.

  • a friend called and chatting with them helped me summon up some energy for my evening walk

  • rescued and refilled the bird seed feeder, which had somehow fallen onto the ground The temperature is a lot milder today with plenty of clouds, which is a relief after the heat of the weekend

  • eating more fruit seems to be good for my digestion. I'm usually a bit reluctant to snack on fresh fruit but I had a banana and a pear with my lunch and it was good. 🍐

  • went for 2 short walks in some unexpectedly warm sunshine

  • finished my aerial sketch and started on another drawing

  • finding my driving license in my porch, meaning that some kind person had posted it through my letter box. I'd no idea that I'd lost it. Must have fallen on the floor last week when I went to vote!

  • a cooked lunch using the other bit of fish with an egg and leftover rice

  • added more paint to my pigeon sketch

  • got washed and dressed today (yesterday was a pajama day)

  • made myself a new dish for lunch: smoked haddock and baked egg (in a white sauce) with rice. I was quite pleased to finally have a reason to use my sauce whisk to help stir the lumps out of the mix.

  • did some weeding. It's damp and overcast today, which makes it easier for me to uproot some weeds

Great book covers sell good books. Book shop browsers are always drawn in by an intriguing cover.

It's worth remembering that some of us (readers) are visually tuned in and may be oblivious to reviews when we're scanning the shelves.

  • put together a new order for a grocery delivery

  • got a decision re weekend plans

  • inspired a friend to vote and went out to vote myself. Rewarded myself with a takeaway on the way home and fortunately had a mostly dry walk there and back

Local elections take place on Thursday 2nd May in England and Wales. Remember to bring some appropriate ID.

In case you're tempted to skip voting, remember that the government love it when we're conflicted, put in a joke vote or abstain. That's how Brexit became a reality.

Voting changes this. Maybe just a bit but better than leaving the way clear for fascists.

  • going through old paperwork to throw out, I found a write up I'd done of the time I toured with a band (as a friend / supporter) in Holland. Saving that to see if I can adapt or share it again

  • shared a hopeful dream (from 2 days ago) in a phone call with a friend.
    My dream: I'm visiting friends on a Carribbean island. In the evening, I'm amazed by the millions of stars visible in the sky. A deep puddle was easy to get out of as I knew I was dreaming.
    Seems like a hopeful vision for the future.

Yesterday's good things

  • sat outside with a mug of tea for a few minutes and put out more bird seed. Saw a wood pigeon eat some of the seed and suet mix.

  • watched a butterfly sun itself and identified it later as a Speckled Wood
