jace,

This may be an unpopular opinion.

But I think today, I've resigned myself to a future win for the Conservatives federally.

The recent decisions by Trudeau and the Liberals have been completely self-destructive, and the NDP are way too disorganized to put up any fight.

A premier Danielle Smith with Prime Minister Poiliviere? The definition of absolute hell, but one that looks completely possible with the inept and disastrous "progressive" parties we have right now.

SonofaGeorge,

@jace I agree- we’re in for a very dark time. Autocratic premiers (hi there, NB, Quebec, ON, SK, AB) and the angriest person in government at the top.

relevantworm,

@jace I've spent this last year focusing my attention much less at the federal and provincial level and much more on the municipal level.

Yes, higher levels of government create policies that affect us all and I vote for them accordingly, but city governments are far more accessible and changes made where you live can have a much greater impact on your outlook.

jace, (edited )

Apparently my take wasn't as unpopular as I thought and many others have been feeling the same way.

That actually makes me more sad as it's clearly something obvious but the parties that we rely on to represent our views fail to see the reality. Sigh.

Chrisosaur,

@jace circle of life in this country. Liberals stagnate, Conservatives fuck around for a while until everyone remembers why we hate them and the Liberals freshen up.

KimberlyN,

@jace

I’m an optimist, and I’ve been worried about the same thing, because the prospect of an authoritarian RW Poilievre government is horrifying. My hope is that PP’s smarmy overexposure will backfire by the time an election is held. People want change, but do we really want a RWNJ authoritarian government? I sure hope not.

Here’s another perspective, from a decidedly curmudgeonly Scrimshaw, that gave me a little hope: https://scrimshawunscripted.substack.com/p/comebacks-challenges-and-the-connoisseurs

Lstn2urmama,

@jace..interesting when you are only allowed to see what they want you to see in negative misinformation

curlygrey,

@jace unfortunately you are most likely correct, the 6th mass extinction has begun, the planet is on life support and anti-vaxxers, anti science, climate change deniers are about to merge.

jaymerryfield,

@jace I wonder about two things:

  1. Will the CPC be able to secure a majority? Or will they be stuck trying to cobble together a coalition government? I think the next election is a foregone conclusion for them, but the makeup will be interesting.

  2. How will PP actually govern once he's in power? Danielle has the track record of being a heartless conservative, but PP has never actually DONE anything since he's come to prominence. Shouting while not in power is very different from governing.

Chigaze,

@jace Can't argue with you there. The Liberals are being completely inept at this point and while still a better choice than the CPC I can understand why they're losing support.

moredread,

@jace unfortunately I think you are correct

stevendrowe,

@jace Who do I vote for if I don't want any of them (?). I guess it will come to reviewing their manifesto's, not that any of them keep their policy promises, and who is the less bonkers.

MayhamMonday,

@jace welcome to the club, I've been here since Alberta's last election! It's a hard & scary reality.

cardamomaddict,

@jace I'm feeling it, too. But I'm kinda hoping Ontario will stem a blue flood, given what's been happening here. In the last provincial election, my riding went NDP and we're having a by-election in three weeks.

Will see who wins and how the margins go. But I will say, I've only seen NDP and Green signs, none for the Liberals or Cons at this point.

shrmanator,

@jace I'll do one better and also think that Trump might also win in the US. It's a terrifying future that is a real possibility.

I don't understand why this is so hard. Can they not hire the same people that are hammering home the conservative messages and pay them to do the same for the more progressive messages?
