I love being scheduled for my MRI scans in the middle of the night. Love it. Love. It.

Tonight I go for a routine MRI to monitor whether or not I’m developing full blown MS.

Having to put my head in loud machine for an hour? 😬 I hate everything about it. Bleh.

Damning for the GOP:

"R-controlled🩸Red states, almost across the board, have higher rates of:

Spousal abuse
Obesity
Smoking
Teen pregnancy
STDs
Abortion
Bankruptcies & poverty
Homicide & suicide
Infant & Maternal mortality
Forcible rape
Robbery & aggravated assault
Dropouts from HS
Divorce
Contaminated air & water
Opiate addiction &...

These terrible outcomes are the direct result of policies promoting greed & racism -the GOP has been using for 40+ yrs."

@KimPerales "Damning for the GOP" requires there to be actual consequences for these failures, and not simply those states voters re-electing them over and over again ad nauseum.

This is probably a personal failing, but I lack sympathy for states who insist on repeatedly shooting themselves in the foot (and I live in a province that prefers to do the very same thing).

This article from @thetyee is terrifying and all too predictable. The signs of drought are everywhere and no one is doing anything about it.
“Todays Alberta government is completely incapable of managing something like climate change, drought and widespread water shortage because they only see environmental problems as political and ideological problems, as opposed to actual problems with potentially catastrophic real-world consequences.”

jaymerryfield,
@jaymerryfield@mstdn.ca avatar

@AskPippa I don't know that there are places with THAT much excess water that they can irrigate a desert (it's not working so well in California this past decade), but we're also talking about quantities of water that are VASTLY larger than what a pipeline carries. The entire flow of multiple rivers.

Better to learn to live within our means and take proactive steps to manage our water resources responsibly, a task that Alberta is uniquely unsuited to tackling.

jace, to random
@jace@mstdn.ca avatar

This may be an unpopular opinion.

But I think today, I've resigned myself to a future win for the Conservatives federally.

The recent decisions by Trudeau and the Liberals have been completely self-destructive, and the NDP are way too disorganized to put up any fight.

A premier Danielle Smith with Prime Minister Poiliviere? The definition of absolute hell, but one that looks completely possible with the inept and disastrous "progressive" parties we have right now.

jaymerryfield,
@jaymerryfield@mstdn.ca avatar

@jace I wonder about two things:

  1. Will the CPC be able to secure a majority? Or will they be stuck trying to cobble together a coalition government? I think the next election is a foregone conclusion for them, but the makeup will be interesting.

  2. How will PP actually govern once he's in power? Danielle has the track record of being a heartless conservative, but PP has never actually DONE anything since he's come to prominence. Shouting while not in power is very different from governing.

My 5 year old daughter was on her bike in front of her (before the car arrived) and after waiting a bit the woman started driving her car towards her, then stopped to yell at my girl to move. When I said "Seriously, you can't wait for a child?" she unbuckled her seat belt and stepped out like she was going to throw down on me, then said she was yelling for her to move because she "didn't want to hit my child".

Jordan Peterson is in trouble for his latest book's blurbs. Quotes from reviews published in the Times and the New Statesman were used on his "Beyond Order" paperback edition, but out of context. For example, columnist James Marriott was quoted as saying the book was "a philosophy of the meaning of life" but he also described that philosophy as "bonkers" — an adjective that didn't make the cover. The BBC has all the details.

@timkmak for me, a Canadian far removed from any sense of danger, it seems like a reasonable expense to make to boost morale. A good-news story that’ll have an effect farther than just the place the work is being done in.

But it also wouldn’t surprise me if Ukrainians much closer to actual danger might have differing thoughts about it. Symbolism is great but you can’t feed your hungry family or give your children a safe space to sleep with a symbol.
