@campuscodi Here's my three-step-solution: 1. Switch from Chrome to Firefox. 2. Use more than one ad-blocker. 3. Log out of your Google accounts periodically (simple when not using Chrome). I was seeing this pop-up a couple of weeks ago. This three-step routine made it go away, and I'm still able to watch all the YouTube I want. Honestly, I wouldn't even care if the ads were just ads. Its the tracking and phishing and malware and other bullshit that I'm blocking.
@campuscodi If I log out, the stupid banner doesn't appear and it doesn't block playback. Also using Freetube you can watch videos without ads and without blocking. So I no longer use the Google account to watch anything on YouTube. I can also download the video or use VLC streaming. Fuck you Youtube!
@campuscodi Such an extension detection mechanism seems to be illegal for EU users, as it works like a spyware and is a privacy violation. Hopefully, if the European Commission do its job, it will be forbidden in 🇪🇺, at least.
@TritTriton Google might then try other things, like making YouTube only available to logged-in users or offering high video resolutions only to paying customers, similar to movie streaming services with their different tiers.
These things could also impact useful tools like yt-dlp, which I am most worried about.
I am not sure where this cat and mouse game will end.
