Thought experiment:

X creates a mastodon instance. Not one that bridges to X or federates X to the fediverse, but a native Mastodon instance. Do we have the same complaints about "consent" with them becoming part of the fediverse?

Is it the company that is objectionable, or the fact that it's not a native fediverse app that is the problem?

@jerry Sometimes I think people really like to break the balls with extreme fanaticism about these matters. In the kingdom of freedom we are going to restrict everything we don't like. I don't like threads or X does not enable me to impose anything on others. Isn't it enough to be able to block each person what they don't like?

I always do small experiments on social networks, since I like to observe human behavior in different contexts. One of those experiments is to publish an opinion or reflection on X/Twitter, Mastodon, Instagram, etc. Only at Mastodon is interesting feedback generated. In other networks it happens that there is no interest in something serious or aggressive reactions are generated. Interesting to think about why it happens.

@jerry I had a moment like that recently, I closed everything but this account I think. But don't use it for a long time. Maybe one day I'll give up everything if my health continues to get much worse.
The problem with social networks is that it steals a lot of time and energy that needs to be preserved at critical moments in life.
Currently, I think I use this as a relief or escape but sometimes it becomes a source of anxiety.
I hope she is well.

As you get older, you lose vitality, you lose things. Close people die, friends, enemies. There are natural losses. But perhaps the most difficult loss to accept and assume is the loss of oneself. See how the one you were, or the one you thought you were, slowly dies.
Impermanence is easy to understand and accept when what ends is the life of others. But seeing yourself in the final stretch is not so easy.

We autistic people have a way of communicating that can confuse people. We talk too much and we can be very kind and correct with a stranger. That doesn't mean I care about your life, I'm just doing what I'm supposed to do and I don't care about your life, affection and approval. In fact I don't care if you exist or not. When people respond in negative ways on my blog, I always struggle with where the line is when to just delete it.

I can take that people have other viewpoints and might not like me or my blog posts. Some comments are just... weird.

Someone sent me a video on X. I havenโ€™t been there in a while. I am stunned. Setting aside the moral objections, how are people cutting through the trash heap of conspiracy theories, blatant paid scam ads, mention spam, and foreign propaganda to get any productive use out of it?

@jerry I use X/Twitter almost silently (for a job I'm doing), if you don't want to you don't see what you don't want to see. Mastodon is undoubtedly quieter and I spend more time here.

relay.infosec.exchange has been assimilated into the big new Epyc server. The only thing left now is matrix.infosec.exchange, infosec.town, and fedia.social. I am going to wait to see how all the server cancellation, the recent threads-related drop in donations, and the Euro/USD exchange rate hit the budget before deciding whether to set up another mastodon server that does (or doesnโ€™t) fully federate with threads.
