what will it take for Americans to treat #HealthCare as a Human Right and not a commodity?

someone cancelled my #chemo and didn't think to tell me. what's worse? the hospital doesn't have a protocol for dealing with these kinds of screw ups beyond a 'sorry.'

it's not the in-take clerk's fault that i had to demand they pay for my ride back home because i cannot take mass transit as a #cancer patient. it's the job of the administration to foresee these errors and have a contingency plan. /1

as a Latin American Studies scholar, i focused on art & literature during las dictaduras because i was intrigued by how artists presented their antifa values thru their art.

well, the same can be said of the hegemonic culture at-large. these are the mundane "glitches" that show how a country lives its values.

America's callous disregard for compassion and empathy in "health care management" is the perfect example of how, the cruelty is the point.

Americans have so normalized in everything related to they call it efficiency.

i shouldn't have to demand the hospital pay for my cab ride back home. errors happen. am not mad about the mistake.

am exhausted because i had to ask for the minimum of courtesy AS A CANCER PATIENT. it costs me $40 to get to chemo. money i do not have for food or anything else because the chemo is making me too ill. have no savings either.

THEY KNOW THIS; but efficiency says, make them beg. /3

IF CRUELTY IS THE POINT OF FASCISM, Americans have turned their bureaucracies into violent, cruelty machines.

it is going to take more than voting out the fascists.

the cruelty is social.

the cruelty is economic.

the cruelty is systemic.

the cruelty is cultural.

how do you radically change a culture to become antifascist?

how do you radically change the mundane so it wont produce and reproduce systemic violence?

that's the real antifa work: to break the cycle of MUNDANE cruelty. /4

I figure normalizing getting FED THE FUCK UP is one good place to start.

As I step into peer support, I'm not going to be trying to help people cope in the way of resigning and anesthetizing themselves to intolerable things. I'm not going to participate in the institutionalized gaslighting.

This stuff is so horrible for so many people. We can come together to share our frustrations and validate one another's outrage. We don't deserve to be treated like this. Finding the energy to do something about it when we're so ill and stressed out is hard, but staying silent is even harder. The wider the communication, understanding, and solidarity goes, the easier and more likely it will be for people everywhere to push back.

We don't have to put up with this.

i have a lot of compassion for the people who work at our hospitals. they are put into impossible situations by the capitalists who have taken over the boards of non-profit hospitals as another commodity money-maker.

i have no compassion whatsoever for the capitalists.

capitalist values say my life is worth nothing. that people like me should be forced to beg.

Americans need to demand #healthCare be recognized as a #humanRight.

it's the antifa thing to do: no profit for health care.

@blogdiva Very sorry you went through all that. ❤️

@StillIRise1963 we have gotten to the point that compassion isn't just radical. it's antifa as fuck. this is where we are as a country. thank goodness the staff were so understanding. but it's their bosses, you know? at the end of the day, its the fucking billionaires sitting on the boards of non-profit hospitals who are ultimately setting public health policy. its their values winning out, not ours.

OH! thanks baby. thanks for the love.

@blogdiva big part of why I wanna have kids tbh
I see my sister and my moots raising kids so radically different than I was raised and it gives me hope--kids these days, at least a lot of them, are being raised to care about other people and honestly that's revolutionary

@blogdiva That is ridiculous! Even the poorly run clinic where I live calls the day before to confirm appointments!
