jerry,

Geez. 13 months later and people are still coming at me about the CISA account And how gravely dangerous it is to the Fediverse

thomasareed,

@jerry Anyone worried about allowing a government agency to participate openly here, rather than worrying about the sock puppet accounts such an agency could set up without anyone knowing, is not worth listening to.

jerry,

@thomasareed critical thinking is a lost art, it would seem

jbaggs,

@jerry Of all the things under the DHS umbrella, they're going to get bent out of shape about CISA. That's truly astounding.

@jerry CISA?
Certified Information Security Auditor?
Sorry about the stupid question, but that's what I get when searching the internet, and I doubt it's correct.
So what's the CISA and why is it a big deal?

(european citizen here)

jerry,

@Arsimael the Cybersecurity and Information Security Agency, which is part of the US government responsible for protecting critical infrastructure from cyber security threats by disseminating information about vulnerabilities, best practices, and setting security policies for protecting the US government.

geekgrrl,

@jerry It would seem, some on Mastodon have the memory of an elephant…. 🥁

iampytest1,

@jerry I'm confused, what CISA account?
@cisa on this server has been suspended, is that it?
Thanks

jerry,

@iampytest1 the problem is all hypothetical - that I was going to allow it, not that it actually happened.

iampytest1,

@jerry Oh, did not realize that.
Sorry

  • jerry,

    @chort I’m not a huge fan of the USG, but CISA is kind of an important and somewhat apolitical force in our industry and my one criticism of them is that they tend to move pretty slowly

    phurd,

    @jerry nonsense springs eternal

    BenAveling,

    @jerry Do these people use mobile phones?

    XenoPhage,

    @jerry Huh.. I wonder if I'm even following that account. I don’t remember seeing anything in my feed.. Time to go look for it!

    alex_02,

    @jerry o_O

    simonzerafa,

    @jerry

    Those persons need to acquire some perspective and a sense of proportion.

    pieselpriemel,

    @jerry That one that hasn't posted anything? Ridicules.

    jerry,

    @pieselpriemel the problem is that I was willing to let them post their information about vulnerabilities, updates to policies about vulnerabilities, and so on, which presents an imminent threat to the safety of the marginalized people of the fediverse. Either directly or as a source of propaganda

    pieselpriemel,

    @jerry
    Like information is dangerous. :blobcat_pat:
    Just wondering if the instance of the german CISCO equivalent @bfdi is a threat to those people as well. 🤫

    jerry,

    @pieselpriemel only government accounts they object to are a problem.
    others are fine, apparently

    @Walker @jerry @pieselpriemel "Any presence of a FED (especially one bureaucratically attached to the Dept of Homeland Sec even if it doesn't have law enforcement powers and it's meant to defend) is BAD and a threat to all free peoples of the fedi because they may read posts here (even using the native rss features built into say mastodon and other fedi platforms) or even more so post stuff."

    It's kinda wild! :ablobcatwave:

    @Walker @jerry @pieselpriemel

    You are speaking to the choir.

    I want government accounts in the fedi and off the twit, hosted on their own servers, but governments are sloooowwwww.

    But this particular account was setup by parties unknown and Jerry took it over so it couldn't be used for disinformation, during last years huge twit migration, as identity verification is poor here. The profile duplicated the twit style and text. And they were being made over several instances at the time.

    And because of this, Jerry is a known FED sympathizer hosting a bunch of likely the same, so is stinky icky. Reason or actual threats need not apply. :ablobcatnod:

    whereisthespai,

    @jerry tfw an agency has arguably less arrest authority than a random person on the street and yet is viewed as identical to having Border Patrol in your house.

    BabblingGeek,

    @jerry lol, our whole instance is a lot scarier than a single account. Missing the forest for the trees there.

    mykl,

    @jerry Ugh. Lemee at 'em.

    Laukidh,

    @jerry they’re engaging in psychological analysis through meme distribution
