We're a long way from anything like this happening, but, man, seeing Threads profiles light up here conjures a potential future where you might follow Instagram, TikTok, maybe even YouTube accounts and more right from Ivory. How much better could it be to be able to repost or quote-post the /original source item/ instead of a link to some external site every time. ActivityPub all the things!
I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're refering to as #Threads is in fact, ActivityPub/Threads, or as I've recently taken to calling it, ActivityPub plus Threads. Threads is not a social media site unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning ActivityPub system made useful by the ActivityPub stuff, clients and vital system components comprising a full social network as defined by Mastodon.
I have threads silenced on Infosec.exchange, .town, and fedia.social. That means people here won’t see stuff from threads, but you have the option to follow and interact or outright block the threads instance.
There are some, though, that are hyper opposed and not finding that to be sufficient. Hypothetically speaking, if I were to create another instance that did hard block threads (activitypub, DNS, firewall, etc), would what would be the type of instance would you like to see?
A jury just found Google guilty on all counts of #antitrust violations stemming from its dispute with #Epic, maker of #Fortnite, which brought a variety of claims related to how Google runs its app marketplace. This is huge:
If you'd like an essay-formatted version of this thread to read or share, here's a link to it on pluralistic.net, my surveillance-free, ad-free, tracker-free blog:

"Unlike Apple's iOS, Android permit both #sideloading (installing an app directly without using an app store) and configuring your device to use a different app store."
Well, my device also has the Samsungs App store preinstalled and I can install from apk's directly. Probably because of EU regulations 🤷

Like information is dangerous. :blobcat_pat:
Just wondering if the instance of the german CISCO equivalent @bfdi is a threat to those people as well. 🤫

So, twitters character limit was once useful? 🙂
This tax evasion tactic only works if the store owns the property, not just rented it. So only big corporations will benefit from it. I don't see why people shouldn't take on their own what these companies "steal" from society.
Judge Cannon just set a trial date for the Trump stolen documents case. Before you rush to judgment, here's everything you need to know: https://youtu.be/TO96KWmMlUE
"It’s not plug-and-play... [Meta] will have to choose how closely to [integrate]... how easily users can migrate their accounts... what kinds of Threads content will be broadcast out into the Fediverse—including, potentially, the role of ads—and how [Fedi] users will be able to see or interact with [Threads]. Meta did not respond to a request for comment."
@mastodonmigration Not only is a bigest chunk of their accounts brands/influencers. They also wanna role out their ads to us?
And we should hold our tongues. 🤬
Our high-level nuclear waste, spent fuel from nuclear reactors, is the most substantive creation of human civilization. It will outlast everything else humans have made.
It is how our descendants will know us, we are the people who made that.
How do we warn the 1,000s of generations who will experience risk from this radioactive waste?
@MisuseCase@doomscroller@bojacobs@sts@histodons
Half life time means, only half of it's radiatoon is gone after 87.7 years. The half of the remaining half needs another 87.7 and so on. Also the decay product of Plutonium-238 is Uranium-234 wich has a half life time of 234000 years.
Hundert of thousands of generations will have to deal with this hazzardous shit. And there is not containment technic / material that will last that long

Sometimes Elon stans call me out on Twitter when people post the "cars and rockets" post, demanding to know what stupid things Elon says about software.
Here's a primo example.
In this exchange, Elon thinks Adam Mosseri is adding rate limits to Threads just like he added them to Twitter, and that he "copied" Elon.
Anyone who understands software knows Adam is talking about WRITE rate limits to curb spam posts. Elon implemented READ rate limits in an application that relies on ad impressions.

The power of the #fediverse is not the number of servers or (active) users. It’s not the amount of traffic it generates. No. Our power is the number of interactions per user. Engagement. Without the influencer model. Centralised metrics fail to capture that. By design. Which is why every comparison of the fediverse with Twitter, Facebook, Instagram will always fail. We simply don’t fit in that set of metrics. This is our strength. Not our weakness.
