@jens What kind of issues are you running into? On mastodon.online obviously we're federated with mastodon.social. I'm not involved with moderating or admin in anyway, so as a user I don't see the downside. Is it junk coming through that could get you in trouble as the server admin?

It shouldn't be on me to avoid something I never signed up for in the first place.

@jens Well yeah but... how can mastodon.social cut out threads discussions for your instance? I guess I am trying to understand what you want Gargron to do. I'm used to people defederating from mastodon.[social, online] but usually it's over multiple examples of individual nastiness not being smacked down the way they would like, and the decision is that there are too many trolls that are being allowed to come through.

@chiasm He's made clear he won't do it, hut if he blocked threads, I wouldn't have that problem.

The TL;DR is, it's an instance with content I don't want. I kinda should treat it like a nazi instance, then, and block it.

I don't quite want that, but I'm edging closer.

@chiasm I guess another way of looking at this is that federation that forwards content is fundamentally broken.

I can't really police what people boost, nor would I want to.

The far better option would be a "block fossbro big tech apologists" option, but that might be hard to implement.
