@liaizon have you tried selfhosting the bridges? so the rate limit won't hit you (other than rssbridge there is https://docs.rsshub.app/routes/social-media#instagram)

i just gave up on instagram btw, too much of a hassle and too much noise anyway because even good collectives have to spam stories to catch the attention of people.

@liaizon anytype can be used easily as a contact manager and it is markdown based... But e_e it's not gonna sync as a ''real'' smartphone address book like apple or google contacts

@thisismissem i keep wondering if an invite-tree style federation could be the answer. Something like the user invite tree of lobste.rs but server wide (even better if also applied inside the server itself between the users)

I really want more organization and structure to my life and I haven't found any methods that seem to work for me. @drewdevault @laurailway I don't think so. Like at all. If there are less women in the space is both because there are much less computer scienstists women than men and also because there are more burdens on other activities to women compared to men. Basically, much less of a pool of people and much less free time. The people that, to contribute to FOSS, read about Stallman first and then they decide to not engage based on his views i bet are an irrelevant number. EDIT: obviously for those who actually had time and energies and interest the main struggle i bet it was the male locker room effect of a lot of tech communities

@drewdevault @laurailway you are as feminist as me, so I think you already know them... Anyway no, the career in computer science is just a cultural thing, not a time and energy issue. Partecipating in free software is. I would like to have some data about it but i bet that also italians, here in italy, working for italian companies, are underrepresented in free software because of the poor working conditions in tech work.

se io postassi un toot con privacy tale che determinato toot possa essere visto solo da @enverdemichelis , i server federati fetcherebbero lo stesso il toot per poi non mostrarlo o non possono proprio fetcharlo?

per capire se la fiducia si deve estendere a chiunque sia capace di sifonare tramite activitypub o solo i server delle persone con le quali avviene la conversazione privata (che sì ok appunto gli admin del server in cui sono io e il server in cui è un'altra persona possono sicuramente vederlo ma non è un problema)

@aaronwinstonsmith @jones @enverdemichelis io preferirei non ci fossero messaggi encrypted onestamente: penso che creino un po' di overhead per chi deve mantenere il server e la community.

Andrei più per un modello del tipo:

  • activitypub per i social su qualsiasi livello
  • matrix per le chat di gruppo o chat con persone nuove
  • signal/simplex per le 1:1 o piccoli gruppi di persone ben scelte

Cercare di fare tutto in uno tipo wechat ma decentralizzato non so quanto sia un casino, magari quell* di spritely ci riusciranno ma per ora mi sembra lontano e molto in dubbio

bonfire by @bernini is more promising because you can have, on the same platform, tools for organizing but also just the kind of fun that lets people enjoy the platform

i hope that the race to being western wechat is won by activitypub and matrix instead of x/meta/telegram (even tho telegram is in a good political spot to be relied on)

I do agree with your post but a person should also learn to distinguish from “dumb” to “maliciously dumb” and “affiliated with some policies”. Close friends is a feature I've been planning, you can delegate a few accounts as "Close Friends", it has many benefits including:

  • Shared Stories
  • Improved ranking (see close friend comments/notifications first)
  • FriendMod (allow close friends to moderate your comment sections)
  • New Account recovery methods (verifying close friends out-of-band)
  • Party mode (add to close friends stories)
  • Recent Activities (keep tabs on close friends)

Shipping this December, maybe sooner 😉

    @thisismissem @dansup @pixelfed oh this gave me an idea, maybe it could be useful to just expand the rainbow to the whole icon for the colored one, instead of using that palette. A bit like a flower more than a camera objective and the P could be patterned a bit like a pistil
