Today, my implanted spinal drug pump gets refilled at home.

I get muscle relaxer Baclofen. Some have pain meds, special blend formulations and other meds.

With an implanted pump, you get constant therapy directly to the brain, much lower doses of medication than oral and better therapy.

I was on a lot of Baclofen & still immobile. It gave me mobility back.

I am so glad I can have this procedure done at home instead of having to go in for a procedure.

2/ Post update

My spinal pump refill occurred without a hitch. The was excellent. Found the port on the first poke.

On the even brighter side, my nurse's wife operates a raccoon sanctuary, and they are going to be setting up traps and relocating the dozens of so raccoons in the bank foreclosed, which they abandoned, and now deteriorated, house next door.

@paul It really is astounding to me how much of a difference it makes in the efficacy of a drug by how they're administered.

When I was recovering from the pain of the bowel perforation I had in 2012, I had a PICC line placed and it was amazing to me how much more effective pain management medications were when they were sent straight to my heart to disperse vs. just through a standard IV. It actually let me sleep for a few hours at a time.

That's amazing they can do this at home for you.

It has been amazing for me.

Just a little syringe of medications, 20ML replaces 27 bottles of medications.

This used to be the 90-day pill refill.

Not only do I get it constantly, but I can take three additional, instant doses a day.

At night, I get hot and that causes the muscle contractions so I can take an extra amount and rest easy. Makes my muscles loose but I can rest without severe and damaging contractions. Very secure "cellphone" and Bluetooth communicator.

@monkeyninja

This goes up the area of the spine directly to the brain stem.

Better efficacy plus less medications damaging the other organs like liver and kidneys.

Glad you got relief with your PICC line.

Costs me $40 co-pay but my pump doctor is over 100 miles away, so that is a bargain.

Plus, I'm less exposed to illnesses like COVID and the flu, just one person vs waiting room & staff, gas and transportation costs and several hours each way in travel.
