@nixCraft I first did professional software development in high school, with MS Access and VBA. My job at the time was more of a PFY to run cables and to grunt work for a much more time experienced professional tech (not a BOFH), but he didn't program and the motel didn't have the budget for anything better.

I don't know how long it was in service before they rolled back to Excel for everything, I never got a support request after that summer.

My first SW dev position was with TopCoder.
