@UncivilServant Jack Aubrey was a thinly-veiled fanfic of the (very rea) Thomas Cochrane, 10th Earl of Dundonald (not to be confused with any of the other utterly insane Admiral Cochranes of the 18th and 19th century Royal Navy—mostly relatives).
