The former criminal president fucked up the minds of all types of people in this nation. On both sides, some now truly think the position of president is that of a dictator, ascribing much more power to the office than it actually carries to start and to stop things all over the world.
@StillIRise1963 the office of presidency in the US is chief diplomat to the world. Trump was particularly bad at that, as he has no empathy, admires dictator/strong men types, and he didn't realize that the US as the more powerful nation might need to compromise more in a relationship with other nations.
More importantly, a US president is supposed to have zero law making power. Signing statements (under Bush Jr) and executive orders are supposed to be interpretive guidance on existing laws.
@Skyye They absolutely are. His gaslighting about this is working on people talking over here. They seem to believe a president has to power to unilaterally end treaties, relationships, and agreements just like a dictator. Where did they learn this falsehood?
@StillIRise1963 I think you have to make a distinction between Russian disinformation and comments by actual Americans. Russian disinformation gives the appearance of stupidity and causes acceptance/resignation by real Americans.

@StillIRise1963 Both America’s boosters and its detractors also have an outsized idea of America’s power over other countries/foreign actors and their behavior, rather than understanding that these foreign parties have motivations and agency that may have little if any relationship to America.
Also some people will cheer any group that’s anti-America without comprehending that they may not be such good guys.
