@fkamiah17 @Bwasscher I’m wondering what will happen when Biden gives the commencement speech at Morehouse. I hope it’s creative and that it makes him super uncomfortable.

“Most of the people arrested at the campus protests were not students or faculty” is an oft-repeated (by police and media) lie that is debunked over and over again by students and faculty participating in (and getting arrested at) these protests. Almost all the people getting arrested are students and faculty.

The purpose of the lie is to prevent us from facing the reality of what’s being perpetrated on our kids and their teachers.

@fulelo I was talking to someone at an organizing event yesterday who said China under Mao supported African anti-colonial/liberation movements in the mid-20th century, so a cozy relationship between many African countries and China is older than we generally think.

(Cuba and Russia also supported anti-colonial movements in Africa at the time.)

I get the strong impression that even if a lot of people on Fedi think that drawing a red line on and pausing military aid shipments is some kind of trick, the government of doesn’t think so, and is doing the typical thing abusers do when they’re denied cooperation that they have come to take for granted: hurting the person who withdrew it from them, or at least anything close to hand.

Israeli security minister Itamar Ben-Gvir has been complaining that cares about the too much and has been forcing the government to hold back on killing them, etc. So now Netanyahu, Ben-Gvir, et. al. are going “withhold weapons to warn us against killing them are you? You can’t tell us what to do! We’ll kill them anyway to show you.”

Some of the attitudes and behavior you see from conservatives and self-described liberals makes more sense when you understand the mindset: dead Jews and theoretical Jews are useful, but actual living Jews with opinions (and we have many opinions!) are inconvenient and difficult.

That’s been a thing for a while and it’s why nobody cares to register Jews’ criticism of Israel, or participation in campus protests. https://mastodon.social/@dangillmor/112411881715629556

Aid groups -already having difficulty distributing much needed aid to the >1.4M ppl -current fighting: killed dozens of people in the last 24 hrs -more robust IDF presence now. 2 brigades, one’s a specialist in tunnels & the other one were the perpetrators of the WCK incident. Those are the 2 brigades operating now & in South Rafa."

MisuseCase,
@MisuseCase@twit.social avatar

@angiebaby @mloxton @StillIRise1963 I think Israel has been saying something like that for a while. They make non-precision bombs domestically, and if they had been using those instead of precision bombs provided by the U.S., the death toll in Gaza would be even higher. (It’s all pretty fucked up.)

1/2

MisuseCase,
@MisuseCase@twit.social avatar

@angiebaby @mloxton @StillIRise1963 A big problem is that Netanyahu is being told by the right-wing psychos in his cabinet, “if you accept a ceasefire agreement we’ll force a general election, you’ll lose your position, and then go to prison for all your crimes pre 10/7/23.” So I don’t know if there’s a way to incentivize him to stop. It would require something like crippling sanctions or military intervention.

@guncelawits @trochee Trump is actually a war criminal, if not to the extent he wants.

He loosened the restrictions on collateral damage/civilian casualties for drone strikes and also made it so that records of strikes and their casualties were not public.

@trochee @guncelawits Both The Beast and The Smiler were supposed to be analogous to Nixon, IIRC. Just different aspects of Nixon.

@trochee @guncelawits The Democratic Party is far from where I’d like it to be, but it’s pretty different from how it was in the 90s.

And politicians from both parties being subservient to corporate/lobby interests didn’t start with Clinton either. It goes back to the early 20th century and probably earlier.

Listen, you can get as mad as you want. You can call Black folk criticizing Biden "Bitching" if you want. We're still going to do it.

The CDC under Biden dropped the Covid isolation period from "5 days" to "vibes days." Not Trump.

MisuseCase,
@MisuseCase@twit.social avatar

@Paxxi @andytiedye @cam @mekkaokereke Parties court swing voters who vote regularly (yes, they do exist) because for them it’s a better use of limited resources than trying to turn out people who vote infrequently or not at all. It’s rational and not really nefarious but it sucks.

1/2

MisuseCase,
@MisuseCase@twit.social avatar

@Paxxi @andytiedye @cam @mekkaokereke The Poor People’s Campaign, which is non-partisan, focuses on GOTV efforts specifically for the people that parties usually ignore: poor and low-wealth people who vote infrequently or don’t vote. Mobilizing poor and low-wealth Americans to vote regularly and be politically active in other ways will be transformative for American politics.

https://www.poorpeoplescampaign.org/

2/2

MisuseCase,
@MisuseCase@twit.social avatar

@Paxxi @andytiedye @cam @mekkaokereke It’s not hard to measure who’s an eligible voter but not registered and who votes infrequently vs. who votes consistently because campaigns and parties can check voter rolls.

It’s also not hard to measure the response rate/effectiveness of outreach to consistent voters vs. infrequent voters or non-voters.

Very few people seem to be dealing with the facts that:

  • services are all being priced as loss-leaders at this point.

  • gen AI is only going to get more expensive, there's literally no forseeable prospect for cost reduction in how AI is produced.

  • Eventually these vendors are gonna be expected to count profits, not revenues, & that's going to mean either fewer services, less service, higher prices, or all of the above.

MisuseCase,
@MisuseCase@twit.social avatar

@FeralRobots @Binder We’re also likely to see incidents similar to that Air Canada one where someone sues a company over deception and/or harm caused by their half-baked chatbot and the court says “pay up.” These things may turn out to be huge liabilities just as the fees get more expensive.

MisuseCase,
@MisuseCase@twit.social avatar

@vfrmedia @FeralRobots @Binder There’s this big company that does websites for most of the car dealerships in the United States and has web content managers collaborate with their clients and this company has not adopted AI at all, from what I can tell, because their fairly wealthy clientele only wants to deal with actual people

MisuseCase,
@MisuseCase@twit.social avatar

@vfrmedia @FeralRobots @Binder This is also how we know that the notion of AI service being as good as service provided by humans is total bunk. The rich don’t think that it’s true and they won’t use it. They expect and require all the services that they use to be provided by humans.

Seeing a fair number of allegedly anti-genocide no-avatar accounts saying things along the lines of “if we stop giving Israel ammunition they will be destroyed and that’s good” or even “we should stop supplying Iron Dome (and other defensive systems too because Israel’s government will be forced into a peace agreement if Israel civilians are in danger.”

Kind of like how I used to see a lot of no-avatar hasbara accounts saying horrible things.

Besides which, Israel is a society with a universal conscription requirement, it’s far more militarized than America or the U.K. or wherever you’re posting from, probably.

And Netanyahu doesn’t care about making “his own people” suffer except that he can use it for propaganda.

“Putting the civilian population in danger to pressure Netanyahu/the government” is not going to work out the way you say you want at all.
