I'm really puzzled by people saying Apple is betting on the app store to make the Vision Pro a success, "just like they did with the iPhone".

They didn't do that at all with the iPhone. It didn't even have an app store at first.

The iPhone had multiple killer features right from the start. It was incredibly useful without installing anything from a 3rd party.

@Tijn Safari was one of the killer apps. Imagine they didn't try to create their own browser just years prior. Mobile optimisation would have been very different.

@Tijn exactly, it's a generation "one" product for the high end. I look at the iPad and how bulky it was on its first version compared to the beautifully sleek iPad 2, these things evolve in both hardware and software. It's a glimpse of what could be, but a long way to go.

Developers will give it extra intrigue as they explore the hardware, but Apple needs to give it a purpose out of the box too regardless.

@jameswoodcock Yeah and who knows how it will evolve down the line, but right now I'm looking at a $3500 device with 3 hours of battery life that just allows the user to run apps they also can without the thing.

So I'm not entirely sure who this is for or how this is helpful.
