Another on the bench. This time is the nice Dual 1218 my parents bought in 1974 along with a Marantz amplifier.

This type of is fully automatic. It's nice to use, but harder to service. Now I have to find 5 quite different lubricants to grease/lube specific points of the turntable 😳 Fortunately it is a well-known deal with Dual turntable and many resources exist. BTW I just ordered an Audio Technica ATVM95E cart at the place of the DN211 that was originally there.

I inspected the #Dual 1218 #turntable mechanism and I cleaned it. There are signs of wear in the large gear that controls the automatic mechanism. I wonder if it can be fixed or polished before I will receive the correct grease for it.

I cleaned and regreased the Dual 1218 #turntable. After a little fight with the infamous “steuerpimpel” I was able to make the turntable mechanism work again. I love it! Now I only need to work on the damper, put the new cartridge, set it up properly and job done!

The Dual 1218 contains a disk changer mechanism. My parents never used it, but it is nice to see it works perfectly.

@davbucci That's the reason some double LP albums came with side 1 and 3 on one and 2 and 4 on the other disk. This way, you could at least play two sides in their desired order.

@publicvoit @davbucci My dad had some classical music symphony album sets with 4 or 5 platters, and if you were good or lucky, you could pick up the whole first half when the last groove ran out, turn them all over, at once, and restart the show. The sides were cut so the first set was backed with the last.

@janbeta maybe you would like this thread as you like repairing vintage HI-FI equipment.

@davbucci Well done! I remember working on a lesser model Dual some years ago that belonged to my father. No automatic mechanism so it was way simpler and just needed a new pickup and some lubricant. :)
