When I went to graduate school, I had to be revaccinated for measles. They told me that people vaccinated between 1963 and 1967 received a faulty dose and may NOT be protected. Please do what's necessary to protect yourself NOW before something bad happens.
They came in and herded us all into the auditorium in high school to give us all new boosters assembly line style. I thought about this when they came up with the Covid vaccine and everyone shit themselves screaming YOU CAN'T MAKE ME! I certainly don't remember being asked. Definitely wasn't asked. You just did it because that's what was best for everyone, you know, like human beings do.
@StillIRise1963 Back in 2014 I was tested for measles immune ity despite immunization and was found to have zero immunity. It's worth verifying immunity by testing.
@StillIRise1963 I seem to remember being re-vaccinated at about age 10-11. There may have been a public health push when the faulty vaccines were uncovered?
@StillIRise1963 It was memorable! My family was friendly with our pediatrician socially. So he came to my house to give the vaccine and they had to catch me, as I ran away in fear! My younger sister didn't have to get one, she was born in 1969.
@StillIRise1963 I would have initially been vaccinated post 1967 and was told (and looked into it and verified) that measles immunity doesn’t persist. Neither does pertussis. In Europe they have a further booster for pertussis we don’t in US, and the US has had teen and adult whooping cough (pertussis) outbreaks in the last decade too.
@StillIRise1963 This is somewhat sad. I had my second MMR shot sometime in the 1990s for this reason. Why has it taken so long to percolate through the info sphere.
@StillIRise1963 I guess I’m going to have to find out for sure. I’m pretty sure I actually had measles as a kid, but I could be confusing it with chickenpox. I’m also not at all sure if I ever received a vaccine for it.
