The most annoying thing with writing a viral post on the fedi is that people reply the same stuff over and over again, either because they're not skimming the thread before replying or because the 5 identical replies before them didn't federate to their end.
This, and that each of the > 3000 favs & boosts is a separate notification 😬
@scy I find it interesting that the reboost and fav counts also... lag.
I see 129 reboosts and 6 favs on my instance, while it's >1,200 reboots and > 2,200 favs on your instance.
@guerda Yeah, not quite sure what's happening there. As far as I know, favs do not federate at all, so the 6 ones you see are all from ruhr.social.
Boosts on the other hand … dunno, maybe it's the number it had when your instance first saw it, or interacted with it? Or it only updates when interacting? 🤷♂️
@scy@guerda I thought that this was a design decision. I heard that only the author can see the exact numbers of boosts and favs so that no "I am more popular than you or" can exist on mastodon.
News and information should be a public service, not a privilege to only those who pay and subscribe.-- That said, I get my news from the BBC News. So much better than American news, by comparison.
Here’s an idea. Ask us this at the end of the article instead of when we are attempting to read the article. Don’t make it a content blocking pop up. Make it the closing tag for the article. Give that sign up account privileges to discuss on the site. Make that a cookie sign in so one will not need to sign in.
If you must turn that email address into a newsletter, make it a weekly digest, not unwanted daily cruft
