Pink Life QueerFest, an LGBTI+ film festival organized by the Pink Life Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transvestite and Transsexual (LGBTT) Solidarity Association since 2011 when it was the first in Turkey, was banned by the dictator-appointed Governor of Ankara.

'The governor also banned "exhibitions, press releases, movie screenings, plays, panels, and talks related to LGBT-LGBTI etc." in the letter notified to the venues, according to the LGBTI+ magazine KaosGL.
[...]
The Ankara Governor’s Office had banned all LGBTI+ events to be organized in the province "indefinitely" twice in 2017 and 2018.'

tygerprints,

@b9AcE I live in the good ol god-blessed US of A, and in our state (Utah) they just banned transgender people from using public bathrooms, and also from participating in any school sports. Their newest bit of legislation to to have all books about LGBTQ people removed for good from all state and public libraries, and to have the Ten Commandments manditorily displayed alongside the flag in all schools.

Which are no longer allowed to teach about racism or diversity, by the way. What a great place this is to live. Now I no longer have to wonder what it was like to be alive during the Dark Ages.

@tygerprints Mhmm.
People kept responding to the warnings with "you're over reacting", until it turned out the warnings were under reactions but now the threat is manifest.
It is the same reactionary authoritarian wave, worldwide, since sometime around 2014.
A decade of fear and hate.

tygerprints,

@b9AcE I've seen the effects of these laws in creating a whole new generation of small brained bigots, and let me tell you, we were way under-reacting as a country. The new crop of cement-heads is among the stupidest and least worthwhile of all human generations.

The only good thing is, this kind of thing forces the pendulum to swing back the other way. In a few years, many of these hateful laws will be reversed and many of these cement-heads will get mowed under in the process. There's always light ahead.

@tygerprints As long as there is life, there is hope.
"Resistance is life", as the Kurdish saying goes.
The only thing that doesn't change, is that there is always change and as a consequence everything ends; even the darkest times end and it is up to us to try to nudge the path of our unstoppable future in a positive direction.

tygerprints,

@b9AcE Resistance is life. I like that. It's very true for me, one my main raison d'etre is to rile up the status quo and get under the skin of those who would try and take my rights away.

Change is the true constant in life. And I've lived long enough to see how we always go from one end of the spectrum to the other, from the wild freedoms of the 60s to the staunch conservatism of the 80s, back and forth and back and forth. It will change and things will get better for us -that's the one thing you can always count on.

@tygerprints I expected the pendulum to start turning back much sooner, but that must have been because I was not taking the larger waves of 50-80 years into account, which seems to have also started rising at the same time as the average frequency waves of usually 4-6 years and so it hit us at an unexpected amount of force.
We can only hope and strive for the turn to begin before we descend below our current Cold War 2, into World War 3, because that will be very, very difficult and take many generations to recover from. especially with climate change also already breaking over the metaphorical levees.

All we can do is try and hope to leave as suitable a habitat as possible to future generations.

tygerprints,

@b9AcE It usually is in increments of 20-30 year cycles, I've noticed. So yes we're in a very restrictive conservative cycle now, but it won't stay that way. In fact I already can predict things going drastically the other direction in about 5 to 10 years.

I'm afraid we will at some point have to contend with WW 3, and it will be sooner rather than later. So with that in mind, I do my best to enjoy every moment we have left and be happy as I can be. Climate change also will be a huge problem in about 5 more years, not that it isn't already.....

So the best of times is now, as they say. You just have to hang on and get joy wherever you can find it.

@tygerprints Yes, it is difficult to see how good things are in the times one is in.
I have discussed it with several people and so far everyone has agreed that we, humankind overall, were probably at our peak in around 2011-12, looking back as far as any of us could.
Yet then was also the peak of a historically large worldwide protest wave demanding we do even better in every category, which we should have instead of the opposite as we did.
