The young man, a serving member of the US Air Force, has died of his injuries after self-immolating outisde the Israeli Embassy in Washington yesterday. He was 25 years old.
His last words were "Free Palestine".
@fkamiah17 Why do this? I don't understand. His death isn't going to stop the atrocities that have plagued this planet since the beginning of time. Someone should have helped him. This is not the answer.
@mvtracing@adrianmorales@fkamiah17 It doesn't lead to change though, in the vast majority of cases. It's ballsy to set yourself on fire for your cause I guess, but one can acheive a lot more by staying alive.
@mvtracing@adrianmorales@fkamiah17 "Most extreme" doesn't equal "Most useful" which was what I was getting at. The entire political system in the US won't change because one dude commits suicide, that's a very observable fact based on the history of these types of protest, and has very little to do with how many people care. Like I said, it's ballsy, but it's not an efficient way to make a change, which I find a bit disheartening considering the level of sacrifice.
@fkamiah17 I think so too. I just wish that we would never need to get to this point. I wish that we could stand in unity against the monsters. The ICJ ruled that what is happening is evil yet the US still blocks intervention.
What's happening in the Ukraine and Syria is blocked in the UN by Russia. I mean what is even the point.
We could have saved this man, we could have saved 1000s of the kids if we just said No. And went and stood with the Palestinians and pushed back against the Israeli state.
