No, no, no. We imagine way more scenarios than only the ones we need to worry about.

Hell, I worry about shit I've done in alternative realities.

Or about paranormal things.

Actually that's one of the reasons that I very seldom post something and only do replies.

I'm going to ramble a bit, but it will hopefully come around to something. When I was growing up, I read a lot of older historical book series, a big one would be the Little House On The Prairie series. While I really enjoyed it, there are some very obviously negative portrayals of Native Americans and African Americans. I remember being angry about it as a kid, and my Dad telling me, that part of learning about history is that we have to acknowledge the people we were, and still are. But because Little House on the Prairie is only semi-autobiographical, I still have mixed feelings about this. I do think they are well written books by a female author, an interesting perspective on early American life, and as an adult I can see and acknowledge the issues with the text. If we try to get rid of every author with racist ideas there wouldn't be much left to read from the 20th Century, and it also feels like being dishonest about who we are. So, I'm very mixed, how do you all feel about it? Do you think children can handle books with racial issues like this if it's explained to them? What is our responsibility here?

Weanerdog,
@Weanerdog@c.im avatar

@RickiTarr That's quite a topic. I think that POC should be in charge of the narrative. I think they should determine how their story is shared and told.

Sydney councillor Steve Christou has moved to ban childrens' books in Cumberland council libraries talking about same-sex parenting, despite contravening Australian anti-discrimination laws. Christou claims he has widespread support of parents.

‘Massive fraud’: Auditing firm for Trump Media hit with charges, lifetime ban by SEC

Weanerdog,

@Brandi_Buchman

Well this is the ethical dilemma of every audit firm. Audit firms can't be independent because they are paid by the people they are auditing.

I remember during my training finding a material irregularity with a medium/large client. Once we had gone through the procedure of reporting them and amending prior year audit reports. They fired us the second they were legally allowed to.

Everyone knows this is going to happen so if anyone is morally compromised and let's be honest money has that effect on a lot of people. Well they don't report and try to hide the problem.

The biggest bullshit is that these guys paid the fine and didn't need to plea. Are they being taken up by the CPA and having their professional designation revoked? Because it doesn't seem like it.

Brainwashed by propaganda is rubbish. Propaganda is just a lie people can tell themselves because they know they are morally corrupt.

They are not in a cult where the information they are receiving is filtered and spun to the cults agendas.

They can easily go and see what is happening and what their actions or inactions are doing.

Dude, I live in South Africa. The original apartheid state. I've had enough debates in this current day with people who still wish for the days under apartheid. And you know what it was always a waste of time.

I was conscripted to a genocidal states army when I was still a kid. Luckily it was during the times of change so I wasn't forced into the horrors that older friends and family were. And they did those things because they believed they had no choice but you always have a choice, which is why they conscript 18 year old children.

But we still should have taken the morally correct path and refused to be a part of that army.

Here is an article from psychology today on cognitive dissonance.

https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/think-well/201812/why-many-people-stubbornly-refuse-change-their-minds

Just so you know my opinion does have some scientific backing. And yes I am aware that one of the options is for the person to change their view but as I've said that's never the people I interact with. Maybe I'm just shit at getting my point across.

Weanerdog,
@Weanerdog@c.im avatar

@justicesandwich

Yeah I get that. Before WW1 that area is part of the ottoman empire. And does not have many Jewish people living there. I'm fact that area didn't have many Jewish people living their for centuries. After WW1 the ottoman lands are divided amongst the "Allies" and Britain gets Palestine. They vacate the land in 1947. After it was designated a safe space for Jews after the horrors of WW2. I think that to deny the Jews access to their holy land after WW2 would have been cruel and unusual. Of course the Arabs did not feel the same way and felt that the Palestinians had land taken from them on an arbitrary basis.

In 1947 when the UK left Palestine they carved it up. The commissioner who did this was Jewish so their is always the argument that it was biased. I cannot say if it was out it wasn't. But the Arabs then started attacking Israel. And Israel defeated them but they also took Palestinian land. They have been for the last 77 years slowly taking Palestinian land and have had Palestine under siege.

So I agree that the Jewish nation has been under attack for most of the past 3000 years. I agree that that is unacceptable. I agree that they have despite all that managed to make a home for themselves. But a large portion of that home they have done to the Palestinians exactly what was done to them. I'm fact they have done it better. They didn't learn compassion through those ordeals. They learnt how to better the strategies used on them.

Palestine existed. The people were there for centuries. You can't deny their right to life, to land, to self government.

Hamas is the difficulty In the situation. Their terror attack was a heinous act. I live in South Africa growing up benefiting from apartheid. When there were terror attacks it was reported very differently here and in other places. It was almost condoned or at least reported with a this is bad but understandable. For the record I don't like Hamas. I don't like their policies regarding their own citizens. I don't like their terror attacks. But if you are being pushed out by settlers and having military operations coming into your country and having suspects dragged out then maybe I can understand their decision. Again I would never condone it, it was a cowardly heinous act.

So TL;DR

Palestine was there for a long long time before the Israelis returned after WW2. And the Israelis have been taking land that was designated Palestinian ever since and besieging the land Palestine had left

Note I have not proofed this essay, neither have I fact checked dates etc. Sorry I'm tired.

Also I don't understand why you are now using logical fallacies in your posts. The pivot of the argument, calling me names.

Like I am not going to engage if you continue using logical fallacies. I'm have assumed that you misunderstood my post on cognitive dissonance and thought I was assuming it at you. I wasn't it was why I seldom argue with people who have made up their mind.

Secondly, maybe you thought that the pivot from discussing people who condone Israeli actions to why Israel has recourse for its actions is appropriate. I have given you my answer on why people may think that.

If you truely believe that Israel is justified in it's actions please tell me do that I may block you. I do not want to have anything to do with people who think genocide might be okay.
