@mariyadelano I've experienced that with a different platform. Not livelihood-related, and that was stressful enough to resolve. Sorry you're having to deal with this, sure it's the last thing you needed today. These platforms often don't really care the stress and damage they cause, it can be so frustrating and difficult.
@picard I really thought that LinkedIn, given that it's literally branded and used as a professional platform, would be a little more careful with things like account suspensions. But also, why would I have any faith in a social media platform?
@mariyadelano Indeed, it doesn't seem unreasonable to expect a business-focused platform, that you are paying for, to do a bit more due diligence before suspending your account. Like, maybe email you or call you (if they have your number). That seems like the bear minimum one should expect from a business service you're paying for.
@darnell@picard no! I'm still suspended. I've been joking that this is what I get for being suspended on LinkedIn - Russia starts a coup and I become a war coverage account here.
But in all seriousness, someone reached out to their friends at LinkedIn on my behalf but never heard back... and I don't have a Twitter :(
@mariyadelano@darnell That is such a ridiculously poor service. How can a business operate like that with paying customers (rhetorical question, of course it's because they don't care - without any real competition they consider you a captive market).
For what it's worth, I really appreciated you turning into a war coverage account! There are precious few Ukrainians doing this here, or talking about your culture, language or history. You add value (even if you need a third account for it...).

@mariyadelano As much as it absolutely sucks, maybe it’s a cursory warning that the same truth applies to LinkedIn as any other platform you don’t own: It’s dangerous to depend on something that someone else can easily take away.
I don’t know how you solve that problem, but maybe it would be a good idea to start thinking about it?
I was in a session at Mozilla Festival discussing how social media is corrupting and what non-profits should do about it. We all sort of felt trapped on the platforms because that's where the industries and communities are.
@mariyadelano I get that. I’m sure many people feel the same way about Twitter, journalists in particular seem to have a hard time letting go.
But there’s always the danger that one day it gets yanked away. That day will certainly suck, but maybe it can suck just a little bit less if you’re prepared.
For me, it would be the same thing with GitHub. Life would get a lot harder in the software world without it.
@philip I genuinely am not sure how to reduce dependency on LinkedIn if I get my account back. I have a decent number of professional connections who follow me both there and here, but far far far from everyone. And I often use LinkedIn for research for client work.
It's just so terrible. I hate being beholden to someone else's whims like this. I feel like a little paper boat floating in the ocean and there's a rogue wave coming towards me.
They sent an automated email that it might take 3-5 days to review my verification request.
Here's the worst part: I pay for LinkedIn Premium. part of the benefits is that I usually get access to live chat support. Yet when they literally LOCK ME OUT OF MY ACCOUNT they won't even give me that fast chat support.
WHAT THE HELL HOW CAN YOU MESS WITH PEOPLE'S BUSINESSES LIKE THAT.
@mariyadelano That’s awful. I jokingly changed the “birth date” of a bot on Twitter once and they shut thing down for being too young. 🤦🏽♂️ I had to do the same thing; at least they fixed it fairly quickly.

Seriously, worst part isn't even that I can't log in for a bit but this!! Other people can't even see my account. And I'm a creator, hundreds of people look at my account every day.

And I'm gonna make a list of most important contacts on there and make sure I have everyone's email or mastodon or some other way of contacting them.
@JetSm00th although admittedly I might have been stalking some people a little much. I got into the habit of constantly checking in on like 10 of my favorite people... I wonder if that's the activity I got flagged for 😅
The most ironic part of this LinkedIn crisis is that last night I turned on my app blocker for all work apps for a couple hours thinking that my OCD got too flared up refreshing LinkedIn notifications.
I guess the universe decided to help me get over that particular OCD episode?
Multiple people have messaged asking me what “actually” got my account suspended and I’m sorry to disappoint but I literally didn’t do anything weird or unusual.
No automation tools, no new location, no new device, no security setting changes, no new post (not for multiple hours at least!), no spamming messages / connection requests / comments.
I was on LinkedIn looking at notifications at around 9-10 pm last night, went to bed, and woke up to my account being suspended
@ewen isn’t it kind of silly to punish someone because someone else tried to hack their account though?
It makes no sense to me that my account would literally stop showing up on the website just because there were failed login attempts from someone else.
They can't tell which way is up. It's not so much they're trying to punish you, as shut down the business model for hackers.
Same thing happened to my Instagram account a few years back. It's never recovered of course, because the platform is a hot mess run by a ruthless algorithm. Hoping LinkedIn is a little more professional when things get restored.

I really am hoping that LinkedIn will be more professional as well. It's going to be a very heavy hit to my business if I can't recover this account....
Keep us informed of progress. I expect LinkedIn to be a very different process compared to IG. But keep your expectations low on the time frame. It's a marathon, not a race.
IG was a nightmare and it took their automated systems ages to even allow my old posts to appear. When they did it was in pieces. Account still feels like it's shadow banned or whatever.
Not knowing is the trauma isn't it. Am I a day away from resolution, or three months? They need a little progress bar to help down-regulate the Adrenalin levels.
I remember seeing a notification a few weeks back from them that they changed their account suspension policies so my following count might be fluctuating because people are getting suspended and reactivated.... why would they flood their own support systems to such an extent?
@zoomar yeah it’s just so strange. That when an account is suspended you lose the paid premium customer support and there’s no consideration for how much money your account might be bringing to their own platform.
If they are worried about profitability / milking users for money then they would prioritize paid, creator, and more active accounts. Yet this system considers absolutely nothing.
