The problem is, people who I probably agree with politically, are hugely susceptible to believing any old nonsense as long as it is delivered as a screenshot which stokes rage against "the baddies".
When I point out that it can be debunked in 5 seconds, that apparently makes me complicit in [insert thing they're angry about].
Here's a fucking Fediverse tip.
Next time you see a screenshot of a Twitter post of a meme from Facebook containing an outrageous exposé of a political scandal - type its words into your search engine of choice.
If the first link is FullFact saying "sigh not this shit again…" then, perhaps, don't hit the repost button?

I went to BBC Fact Check and it says "Akshually, Terence is a frickin' delight and is generally considered full of rainbows and sparkles. Anyone who says otherwise is a filthy liar."
@Edent Internet Time is a very accelerated thing; so many people will be like "NOTHING EVER HAPPENS" if it's been a month since a big thing. Does my head in.
Unhealthy to the point where it'd be easy to think it's being actively promoted: it's such a good way to get young people to tune out and not try to change anything.
@Edent people post online to make themselves feel good and be part of a thing. If you ask them to think for a second about what they're posting (and maybe not post it) that makes them sad.

"The People" will believe any easily disproved myth, conspiracy theory, or othering of minority groups even to the extent of putting them under arrest for existing
so long as you promise enough times that there will be jam tomorrow, or in 5 years, or 50 years, and that naysayers like "experts" with their "evidence" are project fear
It's a law that applies to the masses regardless of leftness or rightness :blobugh:
@Edent I hear you!! My sympathies! So frustrating when those on "my side" are prone to suspending their critical faculties in order to further what religious folks sometimes call a "faith-promoting rumor."
