What's a more work-appropriate way of saying that we need to idiot-proof something to protect our systems from our employees?

Also, if I've already said "idiot-proof" in conversations, emails, meetings, and presentations, what's a diplomatic yet convincing way to explain that away?

Please boost for visibility as I’m meeting with HR in less than an hour.

@Alice My answer is tardy. Why am I late? Are you late to your meeting? Too late if you're not. I mean, I would say "Implement steps that will account for the usual and inevitable human errors. Errors that are bound to waste time and resources if not checked for."

@Alice As a risk-reduction measure, we urgently need to install mechanisms to ensure that both expert and non-expert employee users don't inadvertently damage our systems.

And I'd just ignore the fact that I'd said "idiot-proof" before unless they bring it up - if they do, say that this was common parlance and you are working on other ways of expressing the need for user education and robust system defenses.

    @slothrop @Alice I've had to write a lot of passive-aggressively constructive emails in the last years 🤣

    @Alice This might help. I kinda like "goofproof" but you might run into the same business-context issues with that one, too.

    @Alice I've got no diplomatic speech to speak of. Here for the suggestions.

    @Alice Murphy's Law Compliant. (If something can go wrong it will. So make sure it can't.)

    @Alice "idiot-proof" is essentially a colloquial way to say "make sure it's not possible for someone who doesn't know all the implementation details to take an action that is destructive on accident."

    Perhaps try asking what the compensation package will be for your new role as a SocialEngineering Consultant?

    @Alice I think an alternative way to phrase it is that you need to avoid or at least strongly mitigate the risk of human error, by way of putting some (not at all costly) technical safeguards in place

    @Alice "harden against accidental incursion."
