Who has recommendations for best for the value in the US market?

Primary use would be fun and leisure. Want to be able to have good control over human vs electric force to power down for excersize purposes. Not a commuter, not heavy shopping, or anything like that.

My wife and I have never owned electric bikes but have been driving less and less the past few years and would like to get outside together more.

How important is portability? Will you need to be able to carry it up a flight of stairs or load it into a truck?

Do you expect to offroad? What range are you looking for?

@raf great questions. No stairs, no offroad, just around the city (possibly the ability to get it on lightrail).

I'd like more range to get around to places we don't often go.

Also metro Seattle is very hilly and we are of a certain age.

They also have a store in Seattle so you can do a test ride. Depending on your impression, I can suggest something else if you don't like it.

@raf that's a great rec. I had looked at those. I'd also like any other suggestions you have because that's my normal buying process.

If money is no object, this bike was a joy to use

It's lite and really nimble. Comfy ride with basically little maintenance.

On the budget side there is https://lectricebikes.com/products/xp-lite-midnight-black

Also just try a bunch. I prefer pedal assist to throttle, as throttle can make it feel more like a moped than a bike. But it's personal preference.

What do we really even mean by value?

@raf @dukepaaron @shekinahcancook Meeting requirements for a price you can afford? I tend to think of value as categorical — functionality centered. Other people might focus more on reliability, or other attributes.

@meltedcheese @raf @dukepaaron

I'd say value is highly subjective.
