Did MKBHD ruin an AI company and their product because of their negative review of it?

No, the bad AI product ruined itself and its company. Just because someone created a business, found funding and created a thing doesn’t mean they should get instant recognition, and a pass for crappy stuff.

Entrepreneurs aren’t your friends, they aren’t superior, they don’t deserve to be coddled. When they make sht products, they should be told that they made sht. MKBHD did their job.

@thelinuxEXP

I heard someone complain about the review. "Where's the optimism?" Why would anyone be optimistic about a corporation these days?

asol,
@asol@mastodon.social avatar

@thelinuxEXP Agreed, just because it has some cool tech doesn't mean it is good. This is an "aged like milk" take I saw on X

htpcnz,
@htpcnz@mastodon.social avatar

@thelinuxEXP as long as same level of scrutiny is applied to his sponsors and fanboy brands, that's all good. The issue arises when these reviewers suddenly develop a critical eye only for products they have nothing to gain from or is a competitor to previously mentioned conflicts, unconscious or blatant bias just to pretend & create a smokescreen that they are balanced, unbiased reviewers, while minimising and handwaving issues of their favorites.

@thelinuxEXP I think some forget the purpose of a review. Can’t give a bad product a good review and lie to the consumer.

jvh,
@jvh@twit.social avatar

@thelinuxEXP His wasn't the first or last bad review either! All the major tech reviewers and tech journalists on YouTube, podcasts and websites (e.g The Verge, Engadget, Cnet) are saying the same thing so I find it bizarre that Marques is being singled out. Clearly the product doesn't deliver its promise. Simple as that.

thelinuxEXP,
@thelinuxEXP@mastodon.social avatar

@jvh Yeah, it’s completely ridiculous

notkudu,
@notkudu@mastodon.social avatar

@thelinuxEXP so how does AI work excaly, so like I look online and steal everything I find copyrighted or not that other people put their time, money and effort into, and then I take that data and feed it to an algorathm and then sell it to people and say look it's intelligent and give nothing to the actuall contant creators? Did I got something wrong?

thelinuxEXP,
@thelinuxEXP@mastodon.social avatar

@notkudu It’s basically license / copyright laundering

squareScarletCougar,
@squareScarletCougar@mastodon.social avatar

@thelinuxEXP I don't really get all of this buzz around MKBHD. All he did was lay down the facts, it was not a hit piece, and his opinion is not far from other tech reviewers.

The product needed maturity, and they knowing this decided to launch with the usual mentality of moving fast and breaking things, appealing to the bigger wallets.

So why is he in the spotlight like he has done anything different than usual?

thelinuxEXP,
@thelinuxEXP@mastodon.social avatar

@squareScarletCougar Yeah, probably because it’s AI related, and criticizing anything linked to that seems to really annoy a bunch of tech bros!

@thelinuxEXP here is a useful rule of thumb: If you can take down a company or impact their reputation by reviewing their product for what it is today… it should not have been sent out to anybody. There was a time when companies like Apple made 100% nobody could judge their product before it was not at least 97% ready for primetime. They sent the police to recover a prototype for f*** sake. If Humane thought this was ready - that’s on them.

thelinuxEXP,
@thelinuxEXP@mastodon.social avatar

@hiiaminfi Especially since all the flaws are things that they absolutely should have noticed. They knew it wasn’t ready. They just thought hardware should be handled like how most startups handle software: ship something early even if it’s half broken.

evilroda,
@evilroda@wandering.shop avatar

@thelinuxEXP Are people seriously saying this? MKBHD's review was about as positive as it could've been, given how shit the product was. I would've been way harder on them. He even wished them good luck at the end! Unbelievable.

thelinuxEXP,
@thelinuxEXP@mastodon.social avatar

@evilroda Yeah, some people are really weird. I’m willing to bet it’s mostly AI tech bros that just want pure positive feedback on anything AI related.

@thelinuxEXP only a matter of time before someone runs bad apple on a humane pin. And at that point.. Might as well run linux on it🙃
I still have a vision of someone using an old samsung beam phone to make a better humane ai pin thing🤭
