@GottaLaff@stux I agree that pickup trucks are out of hand except as work trucks. We bought a Toyota Highlander for work travel & dog-to-vet trips. Also useful for spouse's assist device.
Just cost me $164 to renew my trucks registration for 2yrs. And another $120 to renew my equipment trailer for 1 yr.
And another $108 to renew my horse trailer for 1 yr.
@stux One of those huge trucks has a purpose (hauling big/heavy things and towing big heavy things), however so many more people buy them than need them because they're compensating for something.
So many of them get produced in the US because the emissions standards are more lenient for heavier vehicles than lighter ones
@stux Here in the US, not only do lots of people like to roll around in big stupid trucks, but the auto makers are actually incentivized to make bigger vehicles. Fuel economy standards that the government imposes upon them do not apply when the vehicles are over a certain size or weight (likely thanks to the big petrochemical lobbyists).
So less efficiency + public appetite for wankpanzers = higher profit for auto makers and oil companies. Blech.
