@stroughtonsmith App Store Connect having effectively no concept of them as separate OSes should probably be evidence enough.

@stroughtonsmith @macrumors meh. I just want delta in the App Store.

@vmachiel @macrumors the EU has to strike down the Core Technology Fee for that to happen (which it might)

jeroen,

@stroughtonsmith @vmachiel @macrumors if Delta is in the App Store in the EU, the CTF does not have to be paid, right? Not sure why everyone gets Delta in the normal App Store but in the EU users have to jump through hoops and sign up on a website to a yearly subscription for AltStore PAL.

@jeroen @vmachiel @macrumors the CTF is due on App Store apps too. If your developer account is opted in to the new terms, everything you make in the EU is liable

@jeroen @vmachiel @macrumors (which would mean Delta needs an upfront purchase in the App Store, which risks Nintendo legal action)

@stroughtonsmith @jeroen @macrumors CTF for App Store apps needs to go as a bare minimum. This “all your apps are in or out of the new terms” is just.. let’s say wrong to be nice.

jeroen,

@vmachiel @stroughtonsmith @macrumors Yes that would be nice if they'd have no CTF in App Store. But I can understand how they want to keep it as deterrent for going anywhere else.
To be blunt, with regards to emulators, and it is admittedly early days still... but what the DMA has done for users in the EU so far is make it worse. The rest of the world got free emulators in the App Store, EU does not :) That is, as it stands, the net result of the DMA.
Hopefully things will change.

@jeroen @vmachiel that's not the DMA’s fault, that's Apple's fault. Apple could change the rules tomorrow and disallow emulators again. Apple could change the rules and require an Apple subscription before you can download any App Store app. They could destroy categories of apps on a whim. That's the whole point of legislation; Apple could do anything it wants with little to no legal oversight. That's what gatekeeper power is — that's what needs to change

happystriker,

@stroughtonsmith I guess this might be the chance for getting awesome new apps, especially in the developer area, that could help the iPad to live up a little more to proper pro use cases 🥳
