@ojala I did this when I was younger. A group would bring in therapy dogs in-training to a local library and children could read to the dogs. Iirc the purpose was two fold. Boost confidence in children learning to read, since dogs don’t judge. And to help train the dogs to sit still and be patient. A successful program in my opinion!
How do you train a reading dog? I guess it's a variation of "sit" and can only be taught to dogs that have a narrow band of temperament in between don't run around and don't fall asleep.
@ojala I’ve read this is a really effective way to get kids to read more. But also, I have a dog who loves to sit on my feet while I read, so it’s a win-win for both kids and dogs (and I want to read to my dog more often too)
@ojala yeah you need to ACTUALLY be good friends with the parents and build the trust over years so they don't think you're creepy. That's the only weird trick.
