Smaller/underground artists who add their stuff to Spotify but not Bandcamp or Faircamp or anywhere that doesn't just stream.

Stop doin that

@jake4480 Hmmm. It's not easy for musicians & artists, the more I talk to, the more I realize there's no easy solution and they need to do what works best for them. Each one has different hurdles, situations and there's no magic bullet, although if you get the chance to talk to artists whose material you like I'd recommend asking how you can best support them 🙏

@Kitty true. But Spotify, you can't download stuff easily right, as mp3 or flac etc? You can't really keep it physically (officially, I see some shady stuff out there for it?), and I put stuff on my phone to listen to, etc. And I don't use Spotify, it's so walled, so when something is JUST there, it's just there. I also just hate the Spotify UI, it makes no sense to me. 😂 and also doesn't Spotify notoriously pay artists almost NOTHING? At least Bandcamp, the Fridays, artists get all, of it, great community there etc for discovery

@jake4480 I personally don't use Spotify, I was an early rejector of the platform (I'm inventing terms now 😅) everyone loved the new system but I couldn't uninstall it from my computer fast enough. People thought I was weird.
I bet that if an artist is using a platform/medium then they must have a reason for that, even if I don't like or understand their choice.
I do my best to buy some stuff on BC as I know the artist gets fair compensation, even if it's not on the special Fridays

@Kitty very true. Yeah, it's a small local band who's put previous stuff on Bandcamp, wondering if it'll end up there eventually. Came out yesterday. So maybe 😂

@jake4480 not underground if on stupify that's what I reckon

@spytfyre @jake4480 As far as I know there's no high barrier to uploading on Spotify.

But I suppose from a financial perspective there's no point unless it's a major artist.

@spinning_bird @spytfyre nope. They pay artists almost nothing. Why not Bandcamp etc when artists can get all the money on Bandcamp Fridays.
