So, I've finally moved from Three UK to EE. The service from Three used to be amazing, but for whatever reason, in the past 1-2 years, it's been bad... At least in my area.

@andycarolan EE have been ok for me to be fair, only ever have to call them when i want a new sim only plan. Been with them since about 2011 iirc maybe experience would be different if i talked to them more often 🤷

andycarolan,
@andycarolan@social.lol avatar

@bengillam I actually went into an EE store, and they were helpful. I knew exactly what I wanted, and how much I would be paying, so tbh they had very little to do lol

pauls,
@pauls@social.lol avatar

@andycarolan Hope it goes well for you. I used to be with Vodafone until at work the closest antenna was faulty for months and kept saying it would be fixed. Had zero signal at work all day every day - I eventually, after many many calls and escalating complaints got out of the contract and moved to Three - been pretty good although tempted to try EE maybe one day.

andycarolan,
@andycarolan@social.lol avatar

@pauls Thanks! Signal is better already from my house. I may pop out later to try it in other areas lol.

Three used to be excellent for me, until the past 9 months to a year.

habibcham,
@habibcham@mastodon.social avatar

@pauls @andycarolan The only thing keeping me with Three is the dirt cheap tariffs for unlimited data. I’ve been flirting with EE for better coverage. Contract ends Oct, I’ll review then.

Let us know what the EE experience has been like for you 👍🏽

andycarolan,
@andycarolan@social.lol avatar

@habibcham I max out at about 8gb, so unlimited isn't an issue for me. The contract I'm on now is 25gb @pauls

pauls,
@pauls@social.lol avatar

@habibcham @andycarolan I was paying about £17pm on Three originally for unlimited everything which includes streaming Apple Music etc. It's slowly increased to about £22pm these days but I think that's pretty reasonable considering I've been with them on this plan for quite some time now

andycarolan,
@andycarolan@social.lol avatar

@pauls I was on a similarly priced tariff, then they cancelled it... and gave me the same for a lower price 🤔 - At the end, I was paying about £15. But all the price reductions were meaningless if I couldn't get a signal lol @habibcham

pauls,
@pauls@social.lol avatar

@andycarolan @habibcham I may have a look to see what cheaper tariffs are available and also look at what EE are offering. No harm in switching as long as I've got a signal at home for emergencies. Vodafone and O2 we used to have 1 bar if we were lucky in our house.
Probably improved you'd hope.
New antenna up on our estate means I get 5G on my iPhone that's faster than most people's broadband

andycarolan,
@andycarolan@social.lol avatar

@pauls Well, I've just been for a drive in the car and the signal appeared to be consistent. At least, my streaming music didn't cut out like it has been doing lol. @habibcham

ravi,
@ravi@social.lol avatar

@pauls @andycarolan @habibcham Don’t you just use WiFi at home?

I’m on Three and am pretty happy for what I pay.

Tempted to try Lyca as they’re very cheap and use EE.

andycarolan,
@andycarolan@social.lol avatar

@ravi Well, my home Wifi was also with Three (5G router), as I got it when their service was good. The downside to that was having both my phone and home broadband on the same network.

Home broadband is now with Virgin FTTC, and EE of course for mobile @pauls @habibcham

ravi,
@ravi@social.lol avatar

@andycarolan @pauls @habibcham Definitely worth having some redundancy.

Im on Virgin, but planning to move to FTTP when my contract expires

andycarolan,
@andycarolan@social.lol avatar

@ravi Yup, having both services via one provider was silly @pauls @habibcham

rameez,
@rameez@social.lol avatar

@andycarolan The worst part of being on an EE contract is the annual price increase. If you don’t need an eSIM, 1pmobile provides the same service (bands, speeds) with PAYG.

andycarolan,
@andycarolan@social.lol avatar

@rameez AFAIK, all the big/main providers increase prices every April. For me, it's only a few pence, so doesn't really make a whole lot of difference to my bill. Might be a different story if I was on an expensive contract however lol

velobetty,
@velobetty@toot.bike avatar

@andycarolan I have Three and it's good where I am but it's a shame that mobile networks differ so much geographically.

andycarolan,
@andycarolan@social.lol avatar

@velobetty They used to be so good around here, but in the past year, I had most of 2 weeks without service in my home town. Also, as I had 5G home broadband, I basically had zero service across everything.

velobetty,
@velobetty@toot.bike avatar

@andycarolan I have 5G broadband too but where I am, thankfully, it's really quick. It's a shame it's not the same for everyone.

andycarolan,
@andycarolan@social.lol avatar

@velobetty The 5G hub I had was quick. Definitely fast enough for normal family use.

maique,
@maique@social.lol avatar

@andycarolan Hope you have better luck with the new one.

andycarolan,
@andycarolan@social.lol avatar

@maique Morning!

Thanks! Having a decent signal is so important... can't do anything without it lol.

sinky,
@sinky@social.lol avatar

@andycarolan @maique I’ve been with EE for a good few years now and have found it the best signal i’ve had. It’s not the cheapest but i’m overall happy.

andycarolan,
@andycarolan@social.lol avatar

@sinky That's encouraging to hear! I'm paying £16m for 25Gb @maique

maique,
@maique@social.lol avatar

@andycarolan @sinky That’s about what I was paying before. Upgraded to 50GB/€15, but they keep offering more. Seems like every month there’s a free giveaway.

andycarolan,
@andycarolan@social.lol avatar

@maique How much of that 50GB do you use? I was on an “unlimited” plan with Three, but I never used more than about 8GB. @sinky

maique,
@maique@social.lol avatar

@andycarolan @sinky On a regular month, I’d say around 10/15, easy. On the road months, I don’t think 50 is enough.

andycarolan,
@andycarolan@social.lol avatar

@maique It's all those photos that does it lol @sinky

sarajw,
@sarajw@front-end.social avatar

@sinky @andycarolan @maique EE came out of a T-Mobile and Orange merger, right? You'd think that between them, the signal should be good :)

I was on T mobile for years in the UK, probably could still connect with my old number if i want to. Back in the day some old internet contact gave me one of their Friends & Family discounts, winner...
